"I am telling you, Lord Lancaster. I am not a tramp!" Clutching the ivory sheet meagerly hiding her bare torso as tightly as her clumsy hands would allow, Griselda Amelie Brown bestowed her notorious glare to the preposterous man lounging indolently on the rich, leather chair. Her chair.
Her fury turned into pure rage as it became evidently clear that her glare that had the ability to make a large number of men nervous and sweaty had no effect on him. Oh no. Instead, amusement tugged his sensual lips up into a smile.
Lips any woman would jump to kiss.
Instantly, her mind pulled her into a fantasy where his lips were on hers, urging her to open up to him. Would his lips be fervid and rough like the aura radiated off their owner? Or perhaps gentle and caring? Just the thought made a flush caress her cheeks and her upper torso.
"Did I say that, My Lady?" His warm, suave question brought her back to the present. But his possessive tone tempted her to give into the urge to throw a tantrum.
Now that would be satisfying, she thought with a wry smile trying to imagine Lord Arrogant here lose his cool composure but failed. Except it would get her nowhere. She would be running around in full circles.
"It's Lady Brown to you, Callum Lancaster. I belong to no one." It may have been the burden of someone else's actions she had to bear or the fantasies of being in her enemy's-albeit breath-takingly handsome-arms that caused her voice to come out harsher than she intended. Because that is exactly what he was. Her enemy. A threat to her late husband's beloved manor. Another fool who was reeled in by her bastard of a brother-in-law.
"Ah, a woman of the world." he drawled sinking deeper into the comfortable chair making her grit her teeth...hard. Surely he must know how much it killed her to see another man sprawled on her husband's favorite seat?
"Yes, a woman of the world." she nodded vehemently as rays of hope infiltrated her dark, lament life.
He understood! Surely now he would forget about the whole purchase and leave her in peace. But what about the money? a tiny voice whispered to her mind. She would pay him back. Somehow. Eventually. But she would. Pride wouldn't allow her to live peacefully otherwise.
Joy mingled with hysteria made a small smile soften her beautiful features. Her eyes, twins of a beautiful hue of piercing green, gleamed with relief and something akin to satisfaction. The death grip on the cream sheet covering her naked form loosened allowing it to slide down just a fraction. Giving Callum a seductive view of the creamy slopes of her breasts.
"But a woman nonetheless." He made a delibrately slow journey down the lenght of her body with his eyes. A perfect gray pair with a few flecks of blue splayed around his iris beautifying them even more. He smiled with unveiled male appreciation. "You are beautiful." he murmured with a low, seducitve voice that gave her goosebumps and made her heart drum against her ribcage.
"It is against the law to buy a woman without her consent, Lord Lancaster. In fact, it is illicit to buy a woman at all!" she remarked coldly as she witnessed her beautiful strands of hope going up in an invisible flame before her.
"I didn't buy you, Lady Brown. I bought this manor...you come along with it. You can call it one of my many perks for this rundown place cost me a lot." Annoyance glittered in his eyes as regarded her with contempt and anger.
"I-I didn't know about the purchase..." she pleaded one last time for him to understand.
But as thick headed and insensitive as she had deduced him to be, Callum said: "Then why in the world were you waiting for me naked?!"
