It was his 21st birthday and he couldn't be less happy. After breaking off his relationship with Ginny 3 days earlier all he wanted to do was stay in bed. But Molly wasn't having any of that. Even though her daughter broke the heart of the-boy-who-lived, he was still family. And she planned a huge party for him.
"Harry?" Hermione asked cautiously. "Yes, I'm here." Ever since Harry found Ginny kissing Dean Thomas, he packed his stuff and headed to Hermione's house. Which to any normal person looked over-run with books and newspapers but to the owner was crowded with knowledge.
Hermione walked into Harry's bedroom wearing a plum dress that stopped just above the knee. It showed off her long tan legs, which Harry couldn't take his eyes off. Harry was just wearing his best pair of jeans and a nice button-up and (in his opinion) looked like a street urchin compared to her. The man's eyes scanned every piece of visible skin he could find. Hermione looked at him questioningly.
"Is it too formal?" She looked to the floor self-consciously. "You look absolutely wonderful." He stated as she began to look up. "Should we head off then?" Hermione asked blushing. Harry nodded. Hermione took his hand ,which she noted wear very soft, and apparated them to the Weasley residence.
When he arrived , the birthday boy was affectionately attacked by Bill's little one, Victorie. Who he picked up and swung around. Feeling happy and dizzy, she leapt into her mother's arms. Everyone was quick to congratulate Harry on his birthday.
Meanwhile, Hermione helped around in the kitchen. Much to Mrs Weasley's delight as she hadn't been able to talk much to her surrogate daughter since Ron and Hermione's break-up a year ago. "Are you single dearie?" Molly asked cautiously. It was a voice used by a hunter before killing a deer. "Yes, but I want to focus on my career." Currently, Hermione was fighting for the rights of house elves. Werewolves were on her list after. She wanted people to respect werewolves. So future generations wouldn't have to suffer like the deceased Remus Lupin. "Ron is still single, maybe you can reconnect?"
Hermione was horrified and stalked
out the room towards Harry. She tugged him into the garage and started sobbing on his shoulder. "Why?" She cried. Harry held her tenderly. He was very confused but he knew his friend needed support.
"Ron and I broke up because he was snogging Lavender Brown." Hermione sniffled. Harry was appalled. He ran to the Living Room to say his goodbyes (despite many protests) and apparated Hermione and himself to their flat.
Quickly, he sat Hermione down on the couch and began stroking her hair. Now it was not a birds nest. It was a lot shorter.Harry thought it reflected her strong personality. He loved everything about Hermione. Suddenly, it dawned on him. He was in love was his best friend. What should he do?
