"Open it!" I lean on the table, pushing my glass to the side.
"You didn't have to, you know that right?" She stops, placing the gift box back on the table she in front of her.
She did like to argue, and I didn't like it. Still, don't.
Anna was the first woman I met who didn't like to accept gifts, especially jewelry. She always told me that all she ever wanted was me. The diamond earrings she's currently wearing, I had to force her to accept. At the end of the night, she just gave up and thanked me in a very special way.
She breaths out as looking annoyed, giving me one of these looks that meant I was about to be lectured how I should spend my money on more important things than buying her something.
Anna opens the box slowly and her face is covered with a blank expression. No emotions.
For a moment I think if something is wrong or much worse- missing. I lean forward, trying to peek if everything's in place.
"Oh my God, Jamie." Her fingers run over the neckless and she finally looks up.
"Do you like it?"
"My God. Jamie!" She takes it carefully from the gift box and holds it up against the light.
A small diamond shaped locket hangs from a gold chain-type neckless, light shining of it. Specially made from white gold and platinum, the locket is the most expensive part of the set.
"These things usually have a place inside?" She tries to open it, but I stop her.
"Yes they have and I put something into it, but don't open it, please. Not right now!"
Her brows furrow.
"Why not?" She asks, words slowly rolling over her tongue.
I take her hand across the table.
"Promise me that you will not open it before something happens to me!" I reply.
"Jamie! Why would you say such a thing? Nothing will..."
"Anna. If something would happen then I want you to open it. Promise me."
"Jamie..."
"Promise me!"
She breaths out, squeezing my hand.
"I will."
I smile in return and pull her closer to join our lips for a quick kiss.
"Happy anniversary baby. I love you." I say when we part.
"I love you!" She smiles against my mouth and puts her hand behind my neck to pull me into a kiss.
