My name is Matison Smith. I am seventeen years old and, I live in New York City. I have been singing for as long as I can remember. My dream is to become a famous singer/actress and tour. I got a letter in the mail stating that I can audition for a part to sign to Empire and become a recording artist. This could be my big break. My mom is pushing me to go to the audition. When my friends found out I was going to audition to sign for Empire, they were so excited. Tasha, my best friend, wants to be there for me every step of the way. My graduation was the same day as the audition, May 25th. Fortunately, the audition was at 4pm and my graduation was at 8am.

Today is the day of my graduation and my audition. Tasha texted me at 6:25 in the morning stating,"Today is the day!!!" I was already up to get prepared for this graduation and audition. My audition was to sing "What Is Love" by V. Bozeman. I had to sing it all the time throughout the day to remember the lyrics. I had to be at the school no later than 7:30. It wasn't a peaceful morning so, I went to Starbucks and got me a Carmel Frappe with a brownie to wake me up. As my principal shook my hand to receive my diploma, he said, "Good luck for your audition." I thanked him and moved on. My family screamed from the top of their lungs when my principal called my name. The graduation lasted for two and a half hours. It didn't last that long. My parents knew I had to audition so, they didn't plan a party till next week. I was glad to know that my parents cared for me. By that time, I was ready for my audition.

The letter stated that the audition was going to be held at Carnegie Hall. Carnegie Hall wasn't too far away from my house. I was wearing black Pumas, blue jeans, black sweater, and some sunglasses. I arrived about 20 minutes early. Lucious and Hakeem was there to see the girls audition.

"You all have wonderful voices. You have so much talent that we don't want it to go to waste. We are here to find another artist in New York to come and be apart of Empire. Once you are apart of Empire, you are apart of us. There are 16 girls here to audition. Every person in this room should know what they are singing. Whoever we think has the total package will come with us to Chicago next week on Tuesday. I know it is a lot to handle but, we need a new artist from this town," said Lucious.

"If you are the one to come with us to Empire, I will be on your debut album," said Hakeem.

"If you aren't chosen by us, don't think you don't have it to make a album or become a recording artist. You are here because you have talent and potential. You are all very talented and we hope you are the one to be apart of Empire," states Lucious.

I am excited to meet them but, also be the one with the "total package". I had to sing last because it was in a random order. I have butterflies in my stomach and I want them to leave. Since I had to sing last, I ate a bag of BBQ chips and drunk some water. I was on my hone and texting Tasha and telling her I'm so nervous. These girls were really talented. They could sing really well.

"Number 16. Please come on the stage and sing your song," said Lucious

I didn't realize that I was on my phone that long. I was the last one. Time went bye so fast.

"What's your name ma," Hakeem asked

"Matison, my name is Matison Smith," I replied.

"How old are you," Lucious asked.

"Seventeen," I replied

"You may sing your song which is..." Lucious stated.

"'What is Love' by V. Bozeman," I replied.

I was looking at Hakeem. He looked so good and he even winked at me. I giggled and sang that song like I was in the shower or in the car. I think I did a really good job while singing that song. I really would like to talk and meet Hakeem.
