All Pidge could think about the mission they were on was the ship name. The code they had seen in the security of the Galra warship was familiar and it was digging into their mind like a tiny needle in their skull. Meanwhile on the outside Pidge was more focused than ever, searching the halls and even the faces of Galra soldiers they had killed when they pass searching for a clue as to why this particular ship was pulling at their mind.
"Pidge! We got a squad of Galra soldiers on the left!" Shiro's voice cut through their thoughts and sparked them into action. Pidge ran past the group and used their bayard to trip them up while Keith cut through their armor. Shiro and Lance had another group of fight. Hunk was trying to hold off the back of the two groups by himself.
Bayard at their hands, they sprinted past hunk, tangling the legs and electrocuting three Galra soldiers at once. Pidge untangled their bayard and looked around. The ship was so familiar it was frustrating to them. Their head was a mess and so was their fighting in all honesty. They had gotten themselves surrounded and called out for Shiro to help.
Shiro sprinted over and killed off the soldiers, looking into Pidge's eyes and seeing the confusion on their face.
"Allura are there any prisoners aboard this ship?" with a soft glance towards Pidge, he tapped their shoulder and headed down a clear corridor.
"Hunk, Lance, Keith. Cover for me and Pidge while we break a group of prisoners free." Keith nodded and the other two smiled.
"Something's bothering you Pidge. What's up?" Shiro whispered as they kept a lookout for soldiers. Pidge furrowed their eyebrows and tightened their grip on their bayard.
"I know this place, I know I do." They made a groaning noise, "I just can't place it." Shiro frowned and jumped up, turning to face the corner they were sat behind and stabbed a soldier through the stomach. He placed his robot hand on the door, watching in anticipation as faces appeared and moved closer to the door upon realising they weren't here to torture them.
A flash of brown hair reminded Pidge of where they knew the ship from.
"MATT!?" Pidge screamed and watched as the boy turned, noticing his sister standing with a blade in their hand. Pidge dropped their bayard and hugged Matt. Matt's confusuon faded and he clutched onto Pidge's shoulders.
"It's me, Matt. It's Pidg-Katie!" Pidge said, remembering the name matt knew them by.
"Katie!" Matt's grip weakened. "Katie." Pidge felt something hot on their stomach.
"Matt there's no need to..." Pidge's eyes fell upon the deep red stain across Matt's clothing. "..cry..." it was like someone had stopped the clock. Matt collapsed and dragged Pidge down to their knees. They looked down at their brother and smiled shakily. A sword. The end poking out of Matt's stomach. Pidge saw the soldier behind him and was moments too late. The soldier threw Matt's body across the room, Pidge broke out of their shock and screamed, jumping up to hold Matt's body in his final moments.
"No..." Pidge held Matt's limp head, shaking. "Don't leave me so soon." Shiro turned and saw the situation and felt sick to his stomach, his teammate, Pidge's brother had a gaping hole in his back, soaking everything red.
Pidge was silent, clutching onto blood-stained cloth and staring into Matt's lifeless eyes. Shiro blocked gunshots from hitting Pidge as they muttered to themselves and cried silently over Matt's still bleeding corpse.
"PIDGE!" Shiro yelled "PIDGE MOVE!" Pidge couldn't hear him, everything outside of their shock was blurry, the sounds, the sights. They couldn't see Shiro or hear him screaming for them to drop Matt and leave. They didn't hear him cry out in pain as bullet after bullet hit him, Pidge looked up slightly upon seeing Shiro's body hit the floor.
"Shiro..?" Pidge was so still, soldiers walked right past them. Pidge softly stood, feeling wet fabric, heavy with blood, stick to them. They stepped over Shiro and picked up a Galra gun. They could hear Lance, Keith and Hunk around one of the corners. Pidge stepped closer to the corner and raised their gun. When they could hear them clearly they leaned around the corner and pointed the gun at Keith. Pidge knew that Lance would see and defend Keith, they knew Lance was the sharpshooter.
"Keith move!" Lance locked his gun onto Pidge's head and pulled the trigger the very second he realised what he was shooting. He moved the gun to the side just in time.
"Lance what was that?" Hunk asked. Lance held back a cry and ran towards the thing he just shot. The bullet had hit Pidge's waist and had dug into their stomach.
Hunk immediately held a hand to his face, tears pooling in his eyes. Lance skidded across the floor and lifted Pidge's limp body up, making them wince and cough up blood.
"Pidge!? Pidge I-" Lance had to break eye contact as his eyes welled up. "I thought you were gonna shoot Keith-" He sobbed.
"ALLURA PIDGE HAS BEEN SHOT!" Hunk screamed into his helmet.
Pidge grabbed Lance's sleeve, forcing him to look them in the eye.
"Lance, I wanted you to shoot me. Matt, he was in my arms and he died, so did Shiro..." Pidge stopped, tears now pouring off their cheeks. "I can be with them again!" Shaky laughter filled Lance, Keith and Hunk's ears, breaking their hearts.
"Maybe I can be with my family again," Pidge's voice wavered, a droplet of blood dripping over their lip. "My brother, my dad..." They paused for a moment.
"...maybe my mother will join in a while." Lance almost sobbed over them, watching in a panic as the blood spread over their armor. Hunk and Keith had knelt next to Pidge, Keith only just crying, trying to remain strong where Hunk was sobbing and hiccuping.
"Goodbye everyone, don't fuck up." Pidge's eyes closed. Lance shook them in a panic, praying they hadn't passed. Pidge smiled and took a deep breath.
"Find a way without me or Shiro."
