Charlie stared blankly at the cover of the book he had just finished. It ended the way he had expected it to, and found it to be boring. Noticing a bead of sweat roll down his neck, Charlie stood up and opened up his window. A small gust of summer wind flowed into his stuffy room, making it a tad cooler than it was before.
“I should look for a fan later on,” Charlie thought out loud as he ran his fingers through his jet black hair, moving it out of his face in the process.
“Or you could just take your shirt off,” a male voice said teasingly. Charlie looked around for the source of the voice, but didn’t see anyone. Not by his bookshelf, or his door, or his window, or anywhere.
“Over here, smart boy,” the voice said again. Charlie looked by his window once again and saw a boy around his age sitting on a tree branch that was close to his windowsill. The boy seemed pretty normal, light skin, tousled, caramel hair, and eyes so pale you could hardly tell they were meant to be blue. The boy waved at Charlie and climbed into his windowsill.
“Who are you, and why are you sitting in my windowsill?” Charlie annoyedly walked back over to his window and placed a hand on his hip as he questioned the smirking boy.
“Calm down there, tiger. I’m your lovely new neighbor, Jasper. Pleased to meetcha,” Jasper’s voice was cheerful, but still laid back as he spoke. His face held the light smirk he had been wearing since Charlie had first seen him, it was a fitting look for the blue eyed boy.
“I didn’t know there was anyone moving in nearby,” Charlie said, keeping a cool tone and a strict face as he spoke.
Jasper jammed his thumb behind him, motioning to a large white moving van that was parked in front of a house that had been empty for months. “I figured the white van would be hard to miss, but I guess not,” Jasper said with a carefree chuckle.
“I guess I didn’t notice, I’ve been reading all morning,” Charlie shrugged and looked the boy up and down. He was dressed in a loose, galaxy printed tank top, along with a pair of black jeans and a thin white cardigan, despite it being summer.
“See something you like, pretty boy?” Jasper teased in an already familiar tone.
“No, I was just wondering why you were wearing a cardigan in the summer time,” Charlie said plainly, unaffected by Jasper’s nicknames and tone of voice.
“I don’t mind the heat,” Jasper said simply, “besides, my outfit is on point.”
Charlie rolled his eyes, “Whatever. I suppose I should introduce myself. I’m Charlie, and don’t expect me to waste my time on you or any schemes you have planned. I only want to achieve my future goals, and they don’t include you.”
Jasper pouted, “Don’t be like that, Charlie. For all you know I could be your future friend, or best friend, or even boy friend.” Jasper winked and leaned a bit closer to Charlie, causing him to fall out of Charlie’s windowsill. Nearly exactly after the thud of Jasper hitting the floor, a bark and the sound of something running up the stairs could be heard. A white, fluffy dog burst through Charlie’s bedroom door and walked over to Charlie and Jasper. The dog looked at Jasper and growled, but Charlie bent over and calmed the dog down.
“It’s alright Sam, he doesn’t bite, I hope,” Charlie said as he slowly pet the white dog until it stopped growling.
“I won’t bite unless you ask,” Jasper chuckled as he sat up. “Mind if I pet him?”
“Go ahead,” Charlie said with a nod. Jasper extended his hand to the dog’s head, but pulled it away when a feminine voice called for him. Frowning, Jasper stood up and started to slip through Charlie’s window.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Charlie, my Darling,” Jasper said with a wink as he jumped onto the thick branch Charlie had originally found him on. Charlie shook his head and grabbed his laptop off of his nearby desk.
“Might as well get some early studying in, school starts soon, after all,” Charlie told himself as he sat on his bed, along with his panting samoyed, hoping the boy wouldn't keep his promise about coming back. He had better things to do.
