Fourteen year old Lily Evans felt like hitting her head on a desk for the millionth time that day. For goodness sake, James Potter couldn't possibly be that good looking! It was only the first day of school, and already she had heard at least half the girls at their school mention how "hot" he had gotten over the summer, and how he'd been on a diet, and how his muscles were starting to show through his uniform. She was absolutely done.
Lily sat next to her best friend, Marlene McKinnon, on a bench outside the classrooms, and set down her bag on the ground.
"So James Potter—" Marlene began.
"Not you too! Don't you dare say anything about his looks, or I swear I will start calling Remus my best friend!" Lily yelled frustratedly.
"—was going to ask you out today. I see you're already turning into a jealous girlfriend." Marlene commented, rolling her eyes.
"Come again?" Lily said, her eyes wide and her expression horrified.
"James. Potter. Was. Going. To. Ask. You. Out." Marlene repeated slowly. "Didn't he ask already? Did you say yes? He looked pretty smug earlier."
"No." Lily said, reaching to take an orange out of her bag. However, she saw James walking toward them, and she rushed to close her bag. Her hands shook as she threw her bag onto her shoulder.
"I'm going to the library!" Lily called, rushing off in the opposite direction.
James looked after her as she ran away, and Sirius snorted. "Your plan failed miserably."
"I was only going to ask if McGonagall was going to give us homework. I have her class after break." James said, rolling his eyes.
Sirius laughed and stole James's glasses from his face. "I'll bet you she thought you were going to ask her out."
"I wasn't!"
"Even I know that's not true," Remus said, looking up from his book. "and I've been reading all day."
James rolled his eyes again, and his eyes wandered toward the library. "You know, I heard Ms. Pince hates noise."
"Mate, you're not even trying. You only want to go over there because Evans is there." Sirius laughed.
"Whatever. Let's just go bother somebody!" Peter said eagerly, his blue eyes shining.
