Jess awoke at around 3am. The sky was patterned with glowing twinkles of stars, and she sighed in content as she gazed ahead to them. Her sister tossed in her sleep, tearing jess' gaze from the idyllic night sky to her suffering sister. Her sister hadn't been the same since Alexandria was almost lost, she was on edge and rarely slept a full night. Jess, knowing this fact, begrudgingly woke her up, knowing she wasn't going to get back to sleep either. Shaking her awake gently, Jess moved the covers and slid in next to enid. The two sat like this peacefully for a while, giving Enid time to collect her thoughts again. Without a word, she stood up clumsily, taking Jess' hand and the blankets downstairs.
Enid sat on the sofa, wrapped comfortably in her blanket whilst Jess made them both hot chocolate. It was peaceful, and their house which was usually joint occupied by Michonne was silent, her stay at the Grimes' becoming more apparent by the night. Enid giggled at this fact, shaking her head much to the confusion of her sister, who shrugged it off anyway. The two wrapped themselves together on their sofa and drank their hot chocolate. The clock chimed 5am and the two sighed in content. "I'm really grateful for you." Enid spoke softly to her sister. This causes Jess to smile softly. "I know angel." She replies quietly. The two sit this way for what feels like forever, until they begin to see the morning sun rise and a knock appears at their door.
"Come in!" Enid yells softly, moving swiftly to put their hours old dirty mugs into their sink. "Sorry to wake you girls up, but we've got a bit of a dilemma in the armoury and Alexandria is on lockdown." Rick speaks clearly and slowly. Enid moves her hand to her mouth in shock. "Shit." Jess mumbles. "We will be right out after we are changed, rick." She nods to him and he smiles back. "Take your time girls. As long as you aren't stealing stuff from there, you're fine." The two girls nod quickly, and the door shuts quietly behind rick as he exits the house. "I know who it is." Enid bursts out upon his exit. "If it's you Enid I swear.." jess is cut off by Enid's surprise interjection. "It's not!" Jess stumbles over her words as she becomes silent. "Guns were hidden by Carl in case the Saviours found them. Now they're gone, I guess people around here are only just catching on." Enid's words were fumbled as she tried to articulate what she wished to say. "You have to tell Rick." Jess spoke quietly to Enid, wrapping her arm around her shoulder lightly. "I will. Let me just, I don't know... ill get changed. I'll meet you outside."
The dilemma was solved quickly after Enid blurted out what had happened. Rick was understanding and calm, patting Enid on the shoulder for telling the truth, and there was no real trouble for Carl either. But the dilemma showed Jess and whole new side to her sister that she hadn't previously seen since prior to their parents deaths. She was at peace with the group, and she was talking freely and more easily to all members of their mismatched family. Enid caught her eye, and made frantic hand gestures in order to convince her to come over. Jess laughed softly, and began weaving her way through the Alexandrian crowds to get to her sister. Enid was stood chatting to Jesus, her face lighting up every time he made her laugh. It was pure to witness, and the way he treated her so nicely made Jess smile, for she knew enid just needed to be treated as a friend for her to have any trust in someone. "Hey, Jesus." Jess hated to interrupt their flowing conversation, but she would've felt terribly rude not to say hello. He seemed unfazed by her interruption. "Hi, jess. You doing okay?" She nodded, attempting to bring conversation back to her sister. "Well, I'm sorry to rush off but I promised Rick I'd be rested for the run tomorrow. I'll see youse tomorrow morning, yes?" He spoke, grinning. "Of course, sleep well!" Enid grinned back, and he was off. Enid yawned softly, trying to let it go unnoticed by Jess but she caught on. "Home time." She spoke with a joking sternness to her tone. Enid groaned back jokingly. The went around the group saying their good nights, and they were back off to where they'd began their day.
"I'm really proud of you, you know that?" Enid told Jess. "Huh? Why?" Jess asked, tilting her head in slight confusion. "Because you're so strong. You didn't let the saviours get to you. You never back down from a fight - ever, even if it nearly gets you killed and at the times I hate you for it." This makes me chuckle softly. "But I'm more proud of you Enid." Jess proclaimed. "Um, why?" Enid was just as confused as Jess had been. "Because despite everything you've ever witness these past years, you've never let it harm your spirit. You're opening yourself up to the group more, too. I'm always gonna be immensely proud of you." Small tears slipped from Enid's eyes and this caused Jess to turn and wipe them calmly from her face.
"Home sweet home." Enid smiled softly as they entered their house, placing a set of house keys with mismatched house keys upon the chain onto the countertop. "Are you hungry?" Enid yelled through the house to Jess. She runs in and shakes her head. "No no, you're not allowed to cook. I've already got something made." Jess began to go through cupboards and pulled out a chocolate cake. She scratched the back of her neck awkwardly. "I found them on the run with Carl the other day... he helped me find them... I hope it's okay I know it's your favourite and you were upset the other day that I was leaving so I wanted you to have one..." jess kept tripping over her words until she was quietened by Enid. "Jess I love you so damn much." She flung her arms around her sisters small shoulders and hugged her so tightly. They spent the rest of the night eating chocolate cake and drinking hot chocolate, sharing stories and gossip from around Alexandria. They cuddle together back into the blankets that had been left in the disarray of the morning, and by 3am that morning, unlike the day before, they were off into a sleep of bliss.
