Dusk fell around them, turning the once pale blue sky into a musky purple, stars beginning to make themselves apparent, littered haphazardly across the night skies. Thom sat in his windowsill, his cheek pressed lightly against the glass pane, the cool air drafting through the cracks of the battered frame making him shiver. Thom didn't know why he was waiting. He was sure Shawn wasn't going to be home today, but deep in his mind he was hopeful. He played this exact routine everyday like clockwork, knowing one night, his boyfriend would finally be home. In sudden shock, he jumped up, hitting his head on the window frame. "Ow!" He cursed himself quietly, focusing his attention back to the familiar car pulling up into the driveway, and the even more familiar person seated behind the wheel.
Thom opted to stay seated upstairs when Shawn entered their house. He heard running footsteps after the door locked and he felt his heart beating faster. It had been nearly 4 months since Shawn had left on his previous tour, and every second Thom was left wishing he had made the chance to go with him. He vowed next time he would go with him.
Shawn opened their bedroom door slowly. He knew it was 2am, and he was anticipating Thom being fast asleep. However he was greeted with Thom sitting excitedly in the centre of the bed, his legs crossed and a massive childlike grin plastered on his face. "Welcome home!" He cheered and moved to sit on the edge of the bed. Shawn shrugged his jacket off and sat beside him, his head resting against Thoms shoulder.
The clock chimed 4am when the two came to their senses that they were still situated in the same position as earlier. Thom noticed Shawn was snoring softly onto his chest, and took the opportunity to fall backwards slowly, so his back was now comfortably lay on the soft mattress beneath him. He looked down at the man whom he had missed so much these past months and counted his blessings on how lucky he was that his life had turned out so well.
