“Oh! c’mon. You haven’t even heard me play. Please just give me a chance.” I said flicking my long hair out of my face in frustration.
“I’m sorry we’re not looking for members at the moment.” Came the reply from the phone in my hand.
“Bullcrap! Where do you think I got this damn number from? The advertisement that said you were looking for band members!” I said, my voice rising in aggravation.
“I’m sorry. We’re not looking for female members.”
The phone beeped as he hung up on me. Jerk!
I slammed the phone down on the table in front of me.
That’s the third band this week to blow me off because I’m a girl. It’s ridiculous. I can play just as good as any guy.
“Wow, Angry face. Another one blew you off?” My brother said, entering the room
“Lay off it Edd you wouldn't let me join either.” Eddison Millar but everyone just calls him Edd.
“But you’re my sister and I know how good you are and you’ll probably show me up.”
“Flattery isn’t going to cheer me up you know.”
“It was worth a try.”He said with a shrug. “Just cheer up; someone has to take you eventually.”
“Well eventually isn’t soon enough.”
“I think I just found out what the problem is.”
“Yeah it’s that I’m a girl”
“No it’s because you a pessimist.”
“But I just can’t help being so pessimistic when everyone keeps turning me down. You don’t know what it’s like; you got straight into your band.” I sighed and got up of the couch.
“Where’re you going?” Edd asked me
“I need a girl to girl chat to cheer me up.” I said as I walked away.

OK so you probably know by now what the situation is but let me make it a little clearer.
My name is Taelyn Millar (or Tae for short) and I’m 17. My brother (Edd who you met earlier) and I are musicians; Edd specialising in the guitar and me; guitarist, singer and pianist. Only difference is that he has a band and I don’t.

After I left I went straight to Kyra’s house. She was my best friend and absolutely tone deaf, but she was a great listener and a great friend.
I raised my hand to knock on her door but she opened it before skin hit wood.
“Edd called and said you’d come round.”
“Am I really that predictable?” I asked
“yes.” She said laughing
She moved out of the doorway and I walked inside. I went straight to the couch and plonked myself down.
“I can’t believe no one wants you. If I had any talent I would start a band just so you can be in it.” She said
“Well with the mood I’m in it would be the only thing that would cheer me up.”
“Well i think to fix the problem we must find out why you have the problem.” She said “Do you have any idea why they wouldn’t want you because I don’t.”
I laughed “It’s because I’m a woman, obviously.”
“Really that’s so mean. You’re a wonderful musician. They don’t know what their missing.” She said, leaning over to give me a hug.
