When Eric and I were done practicing for the day we went inside his house to get something to eat. We walked into the kitchen and we saw his dad and his brother Garrett sitting there eating lunch. "Hey kids, how was practice today?", Eric's dad asked. "It was great, Rachel conquered her fear of the ramp, did a backflip and landed it perfectly too.", Eric told his dad, "She was amazing, you should have seen her!". "Wait, why was Rachel, afraid of the ramps?", Garrett asked us. "Well, Garrett, it's a long scary story, and I don't think Rachel wants to talk about it right now.", Eric's dad told Garrett. "But, I want to know.", Garrett begged. "It's ok, I guess I can tell him.", I said. Then I pulled up a chair and sat down at the table and began to tell Garrett, about why I didn't like ramps.
Flashback
I was 10 years old, and I was a very active child, I was very strong also. My had bought me a dirt bike, and I became such an excellent driver that he enter me in dirt bike races. I had an amazing record, I would win a lot of races. But when Red Bud came around, thats when the trouble came. When the race started, my bike wouldn't start, but then it finally started and I had to make up a lot of ground. When I finally caught up to the pack, we were coming up on the ramp. I accelerated, then I pulled back and did 2 backflips. I couldn't believe that I just pulled off 2 perfect back flips, and I landed my stunt perfectly. But then out of no where, I blacked out.
Eric's POV
I watched Rachel, land 2 perfect back flips. I was amazed, I have never seen someone so young, and was also a female, do that before. Then about a half a second later, there was trouble. When Rachel landed, Derrick, another motocross racer, who Rachel and I have known forever, did his stunt and accidentally landed on top of Rachel. Rachel was knocked off of her bike, tumbled down the rest of the ramp. Derrick was thrown off his bike also but his helmet didn't come off like Rachel's did. Everyone stood there in horror as we watched the accident. The other racers quickly stopped, but the few who hadn't gone over the ramp yet, did't do a stunt, they just jumped it and tried to avoid the accident. Since my dad was part of the security, he allowed me to go on the track and see if they were ok. I checked on Derrick first since he was closer. He was fine, he only had a few scratches, but as I walked o ver to Rachel, I began to get a bad feeling. I knelt down by her and rolled her over. I could instantly tell that she was not ok. "Rachel, can you hear me?!", I asked her in a worried tone. The ambulance finally showed up and they took her to the hospital. As soon as I finished my race, I drove as fast as I could to the hospital that Rachel was at. I walked in just as the doctor was telling her parents what was wrong. "Well, it's not good. She has 3 broken ribs, 1 cracked rib that you will need to monitor. She also has a sprained wrist and ankle.", the doctor told us. "She also shouldn't race anymore, because if she does, there could be the risk of death the next time she were to get in another accident.", the doctor added. After he left, the room became dead silent. Everyone was still in shock, then Rachel coughed. "What happened? Why am I in the hospital? Where's Eric at?", Rachel asked. As I leaned on the door frame, everyone slowly turned around and looked at me. I walked over to her and sat in the chair next to her. "I'm right here Rachel.", I said to her in a calm voice. "What happened?", Rachel asked me. I turned and looked at everyone, her dad nodded, and led everyone out of the room. It was just me and her. I told her about the accident, and how Derrick was, and what was wrong with her. "The doctor also said that you shouldn't race anymore.", I told her. She didn't say anything, she was in so much shock, from everything that I had told her.
Rachel's POV
When I woke up, I realized that I was in the hospital. Then I asked for Eric, and he told me everything that had happened. Then when he told me that I couldn't race anymore, I froze, I was in shock. I had to give up the one thing that I loved to do. "Are you ok Rachel?", Eric asked. "Ya, I'm fine, I'm just shocked, I mean I have to give up my hobby.", I told him. "I'm sorry", Eric said.
End Of Flashback
"Wow Rachel, I'm so sorry, I had no idea that, that happened.", Garrett, said to me. "It's ok, I can face the ramp now, I used to not even be able to look at it.", I replied. After that I ate lunch, and left to go home.
