Day Four

So far, so good...

"Sooo..." Jo began impishly. "Who tops?"

This bombshell caused Castiel to sharply inhale his coffee, much to his alarm and dismay. Anna gave Jo a sharp look, clearly displeased. Jo simply responded with a sweet smile. Castiel wiped the tears from his eyes before giving Jo an incredulous look.

"P-Pardon?" Was all he could manage.

"Well, I asked-"

"No! I, um, heard you the first time." The small group of students looked at him expectantly. Oh lord...why...

"I-I cannot answer that- that question. It would be misconduct." He tried to explain as calmly as he could. The teens were having none of it. Some were crossing their arms defiantly while others just looked disappointed. Hell, even Kevin couldn't hide his piqued interest. This was really none of their business. At all.

"...I do." Castiel muttered almost inaudibly. Almost.

"No way! You?" Anna exclaimed then flushed in embarrasment, surprised by her own bluntness. Everyone remained silent, seemingly absorbing this information, while Castiel remained silent, not knowing what else he could do. He fiddled with the wedding band on his finger subconsciouly.

"How long have you and Dean been together, Mr. Novak?" A timid voice chimed in. Castiel looked up to see Garth offering him a small smile. He relaxed and smiled back.

"We met nine years ago," Castiel began. "We were friends for two years -two agonizingly slow years, might I add- before we started dating. Four years later, we got married. We've been married for three years now and I can honestly say that my husband is still my best friend. Those titles belong to him and that won't ever change."

Castiel's heart clenched at the sudden nostalgia and he couldn't stop the smile that graced his face at the thought of Dean and just how much he loved him. He looked up to see his students smiling warmly at him. They were moved by the story, but it wasn't just the story that moved them. It was the look Castiel had on his face when he thought of Dean.

"Here," Castiel retrieved a couple of photos from his desk drawer to show the students. "You can take a look at these if you want to."

The first photo was of Dean and Castiel not too long after they had met. They stood amongst a crowd, Dean with a hand on Castiel's shoulder and his head thrown back in laughter. All the while, a look of pure adoration adorned Castiel's face. How they didn't realize their love for each other then, no one knows. The second photo was of the two of them on the day of their wedding. They were highlighted by the orange and pink hues of a sunset and the calm blues of the ocean that resided behind them. The final photo was self-taken. It depicted the two of them sharing a soft and innocent kiss in the impala. There was a clear view of the backseat where a container of pie was resting; Dean was very pleased to have gotten pie and Castiel thought it was adorable.

Their love was clear as day to anyone; everyone could see it, except for them all those years ago.

When my eyes finally opened, I'm glad the first thing I saw were your eyes looking back into mine. Castiel thought fondly.
