Pairing: JayXLloyd
Description: Lloyd has a million problems, and Jay is all of them.
Why did this need to happen to me. Lloyd thought as he paced back and forth in his bedroom. It was late, probably past eleven, and he couldn't sleep. Not when he kept having those dreams.
Those dreams of one of his closest friends. He was sick of... More scared, of them. Images of them together swam in his mind as he slept and he couldn't escape them. And he knew it was wrong, but what would he do?
He can't hide his feelings well, he never could. Especially love or hatred.
And this.... This was love.
Lloyd stopped pacing and looked at the door. His crush was sleeping right across the hall and the urge to see him was almost impossible to resist. But he's asleep. He thought. I could tell him I had a nightmare. I've done that before. But I was being honest about it then, I can't fake it.
Regardless, he did take the chance. Lloyd creaked the door open and stepped outside. Jay's door was open as always. Unlike everyone else he didn't really think he needed privacy when he was asleep. After all, everyone else would be asleep too, right? Well obviously not tonight.
The blonde took a careful step toward the door, trying not to make much noise. Another step, and he was at the bedroom doorway. The room was messy to say the least.
Clothes were scattered on the floor, a game station was a mess of jumbled controller wires, it was like he skipped spring cleaning every time it rolled around. But Lloyd didn't care. Friends never thought less of a messy room. He made his way through the piles of junk on the floor and kneeled down by Jay's bed.
He looked peaceful when he was asleep. Younger even. Lloyd didn't want to disturb him but he thought he might never get a chance like this again. Any other day he might not have enough confidence.
I'm not so brave now anyway. He thought. His heart was racing and he could feel a cold sweat all over his body. He looked at his hand only to find it shaking. But he wouldn't let himself leave. If there was a. Way he could just stay here without jay knowing he would, but he didn't want to be unnoticed anymore.
With fear pulsing inside him, he shook Jay's shoulder. "Jay?" He whispered. " Jay? Wake up."
Jay moaned and buried his face in his pillow. After a few seconds of silence he turned back to Lloyd. "Alright. I'm up. What do you want kid?" He asked.
Once again, even the dumbest things about him made Lloyd's heart skip a beat. Jays voice was just so different when he was tired. It was deeper and more profound. And his tone was raspy, yet, smooth and relaxed. Something about it made Lloyd flustered inside. " I-I-" He began. "I had a nightmare. And... I couldn't sleep."
Lloyd looked at Jay with sad eyes and Jay returned a hard, stern glare. Lloyd knew that look. Jay only did that when he wanted to look mad, but just couldn't make it happen.
"Alright. Get in." He said. Jay let Lloyd crawl into bed next to him and pulled the covers up to his friends shoulders. Lloyd felt Jay drape an arm over him and snuggled closer to him.
"So what was your nightmare about?" Jay asked. The younger could feel himself turning every shade of red. Shoot! I never thought of that! " I um.. I can't remember." Lloyd answered.
Jay looked down at him and laughed at his reddened face. " You ok there Lloyd? You look a little worked up."
Lloyd nodded and tried not to get upset over being laughed at. But even his attempt to ignore Jay reminded him of his friend. He must have been laughed at constantly, being born in a junkyard. Jay once told him kids used to call him 'trailer trash' in school.
That was barrier pushing, but Jay never let it get him down. That's what forced Lloyd to keep from getting disappointed. That, and how brave Jay was in the face of danger. Kai had told him how Jay stayed back on a mission to hold off a group of skeletons so the others could escape.
It was a long time ago but courage is courage. And Jay had enough of it to smile death in the face. While on the other side, Lloyd didn't even have enough to ask someone on a date.
Enough. He thought. I'm sick of being scared. "Jay." He started. " I... I like you. A lot. And I can't change that. I know you don't feel the same way but-" "Shoot kid," Jay said interrupting him. " I know you like me."
"Y-you do?"
"Well yeah. Everyone knows. I mean come on, you make it obvious."
Lloyd could feel himself blushing again and heard another small laugh from Jay.
" Look don't worry about it Lloyd. You like who you like, and I'm not going to try to change that. But you know you don't have a chance with me right?"
That last sentence stung him. Lloyd felt like he got stabbed in the heart when he heard it. But aside from the pain, he nodded yes in response.
" Hey it's alright. You're awesome Lloyd, don't listen to anyone who says otherwise. And you're a great friend. The problem is, I just don't swing that way. I love you like a brother and I'm sorry to tell you that that's as far as you're gonna get with me, but that's honesty for you."
" I know..." Lloyd thought he could feel tears in his eyes, but he refused to cry in front of Jay. He should be happy, after all they still get to stay friends.
But something else happened that changed his mind. Jay kissed his forehead and ruffled his hair before telling him he had to get rest. And that's all Lloyd could think of as he settled back on bed. He actually kissed me... He thought. Even if it wasn't a real romantic kiss, he still kissed me... And that's all Lloyd could have asked for. From then on he settled with his dreams. And they never talked about that night again. But the thing that made Lloyd happiest, was seeing Jay happy. Friends as close as they were would always be content to see each other happy with someone else, even if one of them was even happier to see the other when they closed their eyes at night.
