~Narrator~

The night was almost silent, other then the rain that come down in large drops, making a loud thud when they hit the concrete that made up the roads. A few streets down from Mile Berry Ave came the sounds of footsteps and police sirens. A girl in her teens was running away from the cops, a small, shining item in hand. She wore a black, skin tight suit, and a black cloak with the hood up. She ran into an alleyway, hiding in the shadows. The cops who were on her tail stopped in front of the alleyway, blocking off the entrance, and got out of their cars.
"Give up?" The first cop said, putting bullets into his robotic arm. The other cops followed, putting different types of bullets into their arms. The girl peeked around the corner of a box ever so slightly, making sure she didn't get spotted.
"Just hand over the jem and we might let you go easy." The second cop said. He sounded like a teenage boy going through puberty. The girl giggled slightly at the sound of his voice, but covered her mouth when she heard something beside her. She looked over to where she heard the sound to see two eyes looking at her from the wall.
"Password." The man said in a whisper.
"D, it's me. Let me in already before I blow your brains out." The man closed the little eye slot and pressed something on the wall to open it. The girl slipped inside, without the cops seeing her.

Inside the walls of the small building came the smell of beer and the sounds of chatter and laughter of the other crooks, thieves and spys of the small town they all called home.
"Where have you been?! You're an hour late!" D said to the girl as they walked to a table in the back of the pub.
"I ran into some, difficulties." She said, bowing to the two men sitting at the table.
"Good evening gentleman. I'm sorry to keep you waiting but I have what you've requested, if you keep up your side of the deal." She said, sitting down across from the men. They wore black suits with red ties. One was blond and the other was a brunette. They looked like they belonged in a big office for a wealthy company, which they did. But if you didn't know who they were deep down, you wouldn't think they'd belong in a place like this.
"Where is it?" Said the blond one.
"Don't worry Mr. Slug, it's right here." She patted the jem, which sat nicely beside her.
"Good. Don't want another slip up like last time." He smirked. "Johnny! The case." The brunette reached under the table and pulled out a large, black suitcase and layed it on the table.
"May I have a look?" The girl said, looking at Mr. Slug. He nodded and gestured for Johnny to open it. She looked inside the case which was opened up ever so slightly to see about 20,000§ (1§ = 1 pentagon = 10¢). She smiled and lifted her head. Johnny closed the case again.
"So, we have a deal?" Mr. Slug said, cocking his head to the side. She nodded and handed them the jem under the table. They took the jem and she took the case.
"Nice doing business with you Ms. Dark." They said. Usually, she would have beat them up to get the jem back and still keep the money but since they knew things that some people would die for, she respected them and left them alone. Plus, they had men all over the pub, watching her every move. They all stood up, bowed, and the two men left, leaving Ms. Dark and D standing at the table.

"How do you always manage to get the most dangerous costumers?!" D said, sitting down across from Ms. Dark where the two men once were.
"I don't know. I guess I look like I know what I'm doing, unlike someone I know." She sat back down and put her feet on the table, leaning back in her chair.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?!" D said. He looked liked someone had just stunned him and walked away, which he hated. He was never one to shy from a fight, so when his opponents stunned him and ran away, which happened a lot, he got mad.
"I'm only kidding, jeez. Can't you take a joke anymore?" She said. He looked down at the table.
"I'm sorry. I guess I over reacted a bit."
"Yea, no kidding. Anyway, let's get home already. I'm starting to smell like dried up blood." They got up from the table and went to the front door.
"Wait." She put an arm in front of D to hold him back from opening the door.
"What is it?" He said, looking at her funny.
"The cops idiot. They're still out there."
"Oh right. Here, there is a back way that not very many people know about." He led her to the back of the pub again and they went out the back and into the alleyway on the other side of the building.
"Nice going there Double D. Now how do we get home without going onto the streets genius?" He pointed up to a ladder that led to the roof. She smiled, handed him her cloak, ran, and jumped up to the ladder, bringing it down to the ground.
"Show off." He said, walking over to the ladder, giving her cloak back before she went up.

"Finally! Home at last!" Ms. Dark said when she walked into the small one bedroom, one bathroom, one small kitchen/ living room apartment. She started walking towards the bathroom when she felt a hand pull her back.
"Hold on there Martha. I get to go first since you're having a bath or shower or whatever. I'll only be a minute." He said, walking past her and into the bathroom.
"Fine. But I'm keeping count so I'd suggest not taking any longer then one minute if I were you." She said. He gulped and made sure he wouldn't take his sweet time in there.

"Finally.." She said as she slipped into the tub. She sighed as the warm water hit her skin, the dried blood slowly peeling off her skin and into the water, making it a light red.

She layed there for hours, letting the cold water take over her being, and thought about what the world would be like outside on Dead Man Valley. Her home town was small, with very few people, which meant very few police, especially smart ones. The outlaws out numbered the cops by a long shot, so when something was stolen, they wouldn't know who took it! It was almost like a game to the outlaws, but the game was getting old and people started wanting more, more excitement, more things to do, more things to steal, something different that they hadn't seen thousands of times before.
"That's it!" Martha shouted from the bathroom, waking D up from his nap.
"What is it?! Did you find something? Do I need to come in there to help you?" He asked.
"I don't need you to come in here you pervert. I just thought of something brilliant that will keep us safe from the police and get new things!"
"Oh no, not this again." He mumbled.
"What? You and I both know that's a good idea, and so many people are doing it these days, what's the harm now?"
"Yea, you have a good point there.. I just, have a bad feeling about it." He sat down against the wall.
"You always have a bad feeling about everything."
"Yea but this is different."
"How so?" She asked, getting out of the tub and letting the water drain out.
"I don't know, but it's a new kind of fear, one that I haven't felt since.. Since the accident.." He buried his face in his arms, holding back the tears.
"Oh.. You mean.. Since your, I mean our.."
"Yea.. Since then.." Their mothers were really good friends and so when they died from a mysterious attake when thier children were very young, their father's moved in together to help each other raise the kids, and eventually got married. They were the first gay couple in the town and not many people like the idea of them being together. So one night when they went out for dinner, they were taken out back and slaughter in front of D.
He got the worst of it. Thought Martha as she dried her hair.

After a long pause, Martha broke the silence.
"Well, I'm stronger now and so are you. Nothing like that will happen to us now."
"Alright, but don't say I didn't warn you." She opened the door, almost hitting him in the face and looked around the door at him.
"I won't." She said smiling. He got up off the ground and ran to the living room and started packing his stuff which he kept behind the couch.
"Hey! Did you pay the rent for this month?" Martha asked from her room.
"No, I thought you did." He replied, packing up the last of his stuff.
"You idiot! It was your turn to pay this month! Oh well, we'll pay on our way out." She packed the last of whatever she could carry since they didn't know how far the next town was from Dead Man. She grabbed her bag and threw it onto her back, taking one last look at her small, yet cozy, and now empty, room.
"I hope someone takes care of this room while we're gone."
"And what if we never come back? You better make sure you have everything just in case." D said as he waited at the front door for her.
"Good point." She started looking around the room for anything she might have missed and spotted something shining under her bed.
"Hello, hello, hello. What's this I have found?" She reached under the bed, grabbed it, and pulled it out. It was her mother and father's wedding rings that she put on a metal chain. She put it on her bare neck and left the room for the very last time, till who knows when.
"Ready?" D said as she walked up to him.
"Mhm. Let's go see what the world has in store for us! And, go pay the rent.." They laughed as the looked back on their little apartment and closed the door for the last time.
