You know the moment you think back to everything that has happened in your life and you let out that content sigh because you know nothing could make it better. This is the moment I'm in at the moment. Lying here in the grass next to him I breathe in his scent mixed with the outside breeze as I think about my life and how I got to where I am today.
Glancing to my right where he currently lay's I think of all the struggles and all the fights we had to go through to just enjoy moments like these and celebrate the way we feel about each other in peace and harmony. As I watch him lie there with his eyes close I really take the time to observe everything he does and who he is. The way his mouth parts open slightly every time he lets out a breath. The way his lashes rest calmly on his cheeks as he embraces the light from the sun above.
How he looks so at peace just lying by my side.
"What are you looking at?"
"Honestly you"
He finally opens his eyes turning to look at me with a small smile on his face. Slightly sitting up he rests his body wait on his one arm while turning his body completely towards me.
"Why?"
"You look so peaceful just lying there."
He nods his head before completely standing up and bringing a hand down to help me up as well. With our hand intertwined he brings us back over to where our picnic basket is set up and has been forgotten.
Both of us taking a seat we finish our food and sneak small glances at each other every now and then which would end in a blush on my end and a smirk on his. Silence is all that we hear and its all we need. The stolen glances we share say enough for many times to come.
He places his sandwich down before just watching me eat mine. Shaking my head I put mine down as he takes my hand in his.
"I'm glad you chose me."
"I'm glad I chose you too."
"You know, there is this event I have to go to and I was wondering, never mind."
"No what is it?"
I ask him sitting up straighter hanging on to every word about to leave his mouth. He normally doesn't bring me to certain events so the fact that what I believe is about to come out of his mouth is actually happening I want to remember this.
"Well there is this family thing and I'm allowed a plus one, so I was wondering if maybe you would like to join me at my cousin's wedding."
"I would love to! Oh my gosh this is amazing! I love weddings!"
"Well don't get to excited, we have to do a dance and I'm not that good of a dancer."
"I want to go there is nothing you can say to change my mind."
Smiling at him I watch as his gaze goes from me to the trees behind him before landing back at me. He lets out a small chuckle before taking a bite out of his sandwich now avoiding eye contact with me. Raising my eyebrow I take a small bite out of my sandwich before I realized something.
"Cole?"
"Yes Tessie?"
"Do you know how to dance?"
"Yes, Tessie I know how to dance."
"Do you know how to waltz?"
He takes another bite out of his sandwich before looking up at the sky noticing the sun starting to set. Its then when I knew my answer. Shaking my head at his stubbornness I place my sandwich down and stand up. Brushing the dirt off my dress I go over to him and offer him my hand. He looks at it with a raised eyebrow.
"Take my hand."
He does as I say before standing with me. Grabbing his hand I bring it over to my waist placing it there gently. Taking his other hand in mine I look up at him and smile.
"Pull me close and take one step."
I tell him as I pull him towards me having him take a step. He looks down at his feet making me life his head to have him look at me.
"Keep your eyes locked on mine, and let the music be your guide."
"There is no music Tessie."
"You don't hear it you feel it, now pay attention."
I tell him before pulling him close to me again taking a couple more steps. He catches on pretty quickly and sooner than later we are dancing in the middle of a field under the stars. My dress blowing in the cold wind, but the warmth of his body near mine is enough to keep me warm through the night.
His eyes never leave mine as he lets his body take control. Giving him a small smile I comment on how he isn't a half bad dancer to which he just shakes his head before pulling me closer.
I rest my head on his shoulder as we just sway back and forth enjoying each others company. I feel him sigh before slightly pulling away and looking me straight in the eyes.
"You are the best thing that has ever happened to me Tessie, do you know that."
"I do, and you are the best thing that has ever happened to me Cole."
"I love you so much."
"I love you too. Thank you for today. I had a great time. Happy Valentine's Day."
"Happy Valentine's Day Tessie."
Short and simple.
