ZAY'S FATHER SHOOK him awake. "Son, wake up. I need to talk to you."
Zay rubbed his eyes, groaning. "Can't it wait a couple hours?"
"It can't." He said.
Zay noticed his father's eyes were red, and that he was looking at him sympathetically. "What's going on, Pops?"
"Erica Reyes." Mr. Babineaux said. "That name ring a bell to you?"
"She's a very close friend of mine, why?" Zay asked worriedly.
Mr. Babineaux held Zay's hand. "She swallowed too many pills tonight." He took a deep breath. "She's gone, son."
Zay froze. He didn't know what to do, he didn't know what to say. He had so many questions, and he knew his father had no answers.
"Zay." Mr. Babineaux said. "I know you're in a lot of shock right now, but you need to know that she's with your mother now, and they're very happy together. I know she wasn't happy here, but she's happy now."
Zay looked at his father, his expression blank, and broke.
He cried over everything, his mom, Erica, hell, he even cried over his grandma's cookie.
Zay's father rubbed Zay's back, and a tear slipped out of his eye too. "Only the good die young." He whispered. "Only the good die young." Mr. Babineaux kissed his son on the forehead. "She left a letter for you. Whenever you're ready to read it, it's on your dresser."
Zay pulled away from his father's embrace and tore open the envelope on his dresser

Well, howdy. By the time you're reading this, I'm already gone. Woah, I feel like Drake. "If you're reading this, it's too late." Get it? Haha I crack myself up.
Anyway, I wanted to thank you for being the smartass you are, and introducing me to the most life changing group of people I've ever met. Never change, Zay. I'm serious. Keep roasting people. Hell, you can even roast me! "That Erica chick, she sure couldn't dance." Trust me, I won't mind. I know I can't dance. But seriously, I love you, you always knew how to cheer me up when I was down. Thank you for that.
