Welcome to Riverdale; Prologue

"Riverdale? What kind of town name is Riverdale?" I asked, staring out the window of the jet black Rolls Royce Phantom that had picked me and my ever-so-stubborn mother up from the airport. I could feel my mothers gaze piercing into the back of my head and turned to meet that gaze, forcing a crooked smile onto my lips. "Riverdale sounds like a lovely town." I said reluctantly.

Although I wasn't particularly showing it, I was relieved to be leaving New York. 'NY Veronica' was toxic, mean and selfish. I was ready to start over in a new place, no matter what the name of it was. The car pulled in front of a smallish hotel and I peeked out the window, trying my absolute hardest to keep a positive, optimistic frame of mind.

The chauffeur opened my car door, and I stepped out, immediately being greeted by my family's long appreciated butler, Smithers. With my parents always fulfilling their work agendas, Smithers was the one to practically raise me, and I was glad to see him. "Smithers!" My mother said with a huge smile, greeting the man with a feeble hug. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her over the top, obviously over exaggerated tone of voice.

Smithers unloaded our luggage from the car, which I did appreciate, and carried our bags up to our room. Sure, it was a penthouse, but my bedroom alone back in New York was bigger than our whole suite. "Smithers, just leave my bags in my room; I'll deal with them later." I said with a sigh as I turn to face my mother.

"Room service? I'm starving." I said, making sure to be just as over exaggerated as my mother. My mom turned to me with some silly, nostalgic look on her face. "There's actually this diner down the street, Pop's Chocklit Shoppe. They have the best cheeseburgers."

I wasn't really in the mood to go out, especially not to a chocklit shoppe for burgers, but it was also late, and I wasn't in the mood to argue with my mom. Did I mention how stubborn she was?

"Fine." I finally said, before grabbing one of my favorite purses from my carry on. I followed my mom to the elevator, and down to the lobby. Expecting to take the car, I was a bit shocked to say the least when I saw my mother beginning to walk away from me. "Um, excuse me, where are you going?" I asked, quickly walking after her, my heels clicking repetitively against the wet pavement. My mother had never been one to walk anywhere, and I couldn't see any reason for her to start now. I groaned as I realized my mother wasn't going to stop (or even wait for me.)

We arrived at this so-called 'chocklit shoppe' and I couldn't help but cringe as we stepped inside. I promise, I was trying my hardest to have a positive outlook on this whole move, but the universe just didn't seem to be on my side. I watched my mom immediately gravitate towards the counter, beginning to order whatever grease-doused, overly fattening food she desired.

I crinkled my nose, something I often did when I was displeased with something, and looked around the diner. I stopped when I noticed two teenagers, a blonde, and a ginger, about my age, at one of the booths. I tilted my head, wondering if the two were on a date or something, then made my way over. Date or not, I needed to make friends, and this was as good a time as any to start.

The first thing I noticed was the redheaded boy. Whatever the two of them were talking about, he looked totally uninterested. He would probably thank me for interrupting their little date anyway.

"Hey... You two go to Riverdale?" I asked with a hopeful smile. I noticed the blonde girl return the smile first, a bit taken aback by their sudden interruption. She seemed nice, pretty... beautiful even.

"Yeah we do." She responded, glancing at her ginger friend with an awkward smile.

"Great! I'm starting there tomorrow... Maybe you'd be able to show me around?" I ask the blonde girl with an involuntary flirtatious smile.

"Oh, I would love to. This is Archie by the way, and I'm Betty."

"Nice to meet you Betty, I'm Veronica."
