".........Life, it's tough. Sometimes hard to handle. It's like your soul has a body to move, to live, to do actions, show emotions, but for what?Everyone has different purpose, a reason why you are here. I've known mine. And I hope you will get that too. God be with you."
My speech at oakwood highschool was at last over. This was the very first time I spoke about my life on stage. After getting off the podium it became hard for me to control my tears, as I remembered everything from my past while speaking.
I sat down on a chair on the space covered with partition beside the podium with my head between my hands, and tears rolling down across the cheek. Callie(my best friend) came running towards me with a smile of proudness, praising me for my speech. But when she saw me, she froze for a moment. She didn't knew what I needed the right at that moment, a space or a shoulder to cry.
I raised my head up wiping my tears, assuring her that I was alright. The tension between us broke out as principal Jules of oakwood came running towards me and gave me a tight hug. "I'm so proud of you my child! It must be hard for you, but I'm glad that you made it." Her eyes were filled with tears of proudness. She was old now but still had a wonderful smile on her face making it glow brighter. After a hug for few seconds I pulled back and said, "Who will miss the chance to speak at your old highschool" I stated with a small grin on my face. Principal Jules smiled at my this statement.
"Let's go to my office, we will have a cup of coffee over there." I followed her through the hallways with silence the only sound I could hear was our footsteps. I was glancing through the windows into classes while walking silently remembering my highschool days.
As we reached at her office, she unlatched the door. What I saw behind the doors was breathtaking. My eyes became wide and my mouth was hanging, my body was frozen until they screamed "Happy birthday Victoria!" Oh yes, in my busy schedule I had forgot that it's my birthday today. My old highschool friends were inside the office holding a cake in their hand with my name on it and wearing the birthday hats and...Before I could what it was they, covered me with the foam. And again I was frozen but because of other reason now. My leather jacket was covered with foam now. I heard a huge laughing sound behind me and guess who was it, my best friend callie and principal Jules were laughing at me. I was angry for a moment but then I too bursted out in laughing. Some of my friends helped me to remove my jacket and clean myself. After removing all the foam my body I got inside the office to cut the cake. As I was cutting it they sang the old traditional song.
" Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Victoria, happy birthday to you!"
After cutting the cake when I looked up, I saw him, he was there the whole time. My eyes widened when I saw him. Within a moment I got back to reality and started enjoying my birthday. People where singing, dancing, pasting cake on each others faces. I avoided to go near him the whole time. After an hour principal Jules came back and said, " It's getting dark, you all should leave for home now. And Victoria once again I thank you for coming. Have a blessed year ahead my child."
After her statement I flashed a smile as thanks giving to her. I was relieved when she asked everyone to leave. I thanked everyone for this birthday bash. I saw him again, and he was started walking towards me.I took my jacket, pulled Callie's hand and started walking through the hallways as fast as I could.
"Why are we walking so fast, what happened?" Callie asked.
I didn't uttered a word, after her question I holded her hand tighter and kept walking until we reached in parking.
She kept asking but I didn't replied any of her questions. We got into car and I started the engine, she screamed in confusion asking me what has happened.
I took deep breaths. "He is here" I said. With a big question mark on her face she asked me, "who is here?" I rolled my eyes at her silliness that don't even remember anything about my past. " Callie, Rick is here!" I said releasing the breath I don't know how long I was holding for. Callie's face was neutral. "Why do you even bother about him, don't care about it, okay?" She was right. I should have not ran showing that he still bothered me. While the thoughts were running in my mind I looked front while sitting in the car. I saw him walking towards me. I don't know what hit me, but I started the engine, pulled the reverse gear and drove as towards the Callie's house. When we arrived near her house. She hugged me assuring me that I won't again see him.
While driving towards my apartment I was thinking about the speech, the birthday bash, and him. He was staring at me with his deep green eyes, a few strands of his hair falling on them, an uneven smirk which looked so familiar. A part of me was saying don't fall for him again and another was saying 'have you ever forgot him?' I didn't knew what to do. As I reached my apartment, I parked the car, instead elevator took the stairs. The feeling of walking through stairs was good. With each stair I felt better. After reaching my floor, while walking through hallway I felt familiar. I opened the door of my apartment, locked it again after getting in and ran towards bedroom. I sunk into my bed, not wanting to change or get my make up off. I needed a good night sleep to forget him.
