Jake's P.O.V.
It was Saturday.
Well, sort of.
Because of the loop, it was always September 3rd, 1940. But in 2017, it would have been Saturday.
Anyway, Emma was making breakfast today. Usually Bronwyn does it, but currently she's busy with Olive and Claire. I went downstairs to help her because she was going to need it. No offense to her, but she isn't the best cook. I go downstairs, and surprisingly, it doesn't smell terrible!
"Morning!" I say as I walk into the kitchen.
I was about to say more, but I falter as I look at the state of the kitchen.
It's a huge mess.
Emma has three pans of pancakes going at the same time, and she's flipping them like a mad man. There's a plate of about 9 or so. There's batter on the wall and floor, and the fridge is open. She's reading out of a cookbook and putting two trays in the oven at the same time. One of them has bacon, the other has sausages.
She whirls around. Wiping her hands on her apron she sighs.
"I am SO bad at this," she mumbles.
"Yes you are," I reply. Emma shoots me a glare, and goes back to the pancakes. "Are you going to help, or not?" She asks while stacking three more pancakes on the plate.
"I'll go set the table," I say, grabbing the silver ware and placemats.
"Yeah," she said, putting more bacon in the oven.
In the dining room, I put two placemats down; one for Olive and one for Claire. Yes, I know they're not 2. But they like them so... I do it.
I set the rest of the table like I usually would and walked back into the kitchen.
Emma had finished breakfast and was cleaning up.
"Nice job," I say, grabbing the plate of pancakes and the plate of bacon. I set them on the table, and Emma runs in with scrambled eggs and sausages. "Get the syrup and the butter." She instructs. I do as told, and the table is set.
Emma sighed in relief, before looking at her clothes and groaning. "You," she said pointing at me, "please start to clean up while I go get changed."
She dashes upstairs and I start work on the kitchen. By the time Emma gets back down, the only ting left is the dishes.
** time skip to after breakfast cause I'm lazy **
"Alright Children!" Miss Peregrine spoke up. "We have lessons in thirty minutes! I want to see you all down here in twenty. Go on!" She clapped her hands, and we all brought our dishes to the sink, and then hurried upstairs.
I put on my favorite button down shirt and some black pants. I went to the bathroom and combed my hair for a minute before heading downstairs.
I was the second one down there. Claire and Olive didn't need to change because they wear their play clothes to breakfast. It's easier for Bronwyn.
Soon enough, everyone was down and we were ready to start the group lesson. That is, before Claire spotted them.
She yelled, "Miss Peregrine, look! People!", and pointed through the window and into the distance.
Sure enough, there was a group of people headed this way.
They all looked at me.
"No hollows," I reported.
They all breathed a sigh of relief, until they realized that the people could be hollows themselves.
"Get me my crossbow," Miss Peregrine said. Enoch ran to the other room and came back with her crossbow.
"How many are there?" Olive asked, trying to see over everyone.
"Ten," Miss Peregrine said grimly. "They're running."
That was true. They were approaching the house at a rapid speed.
"Emma and I will go introduce ourselves. Miss Peregrine, you keep watch from the window and shoot if anything gets out of hand." I say.
Before Emma can protest, I grab her hand and lead her out of the room.
She glared at me. "Why'd you have to bring me?" She asks me.
"Because," I answer simply, "if they were wights you would scare them off." She punches me playfully, but it still hurt.
"Well then, let's hurry up," Emma says, picking up speed. "We have some people to deal with."
