Chapter Three

Rediscovered Curiosity

"You're on a quest?" Aleanu said doubtfully.

"I am," Faleon replied. "And I'm looking for a wolf to help me with it." Faleon looked at Aleanu dead in the eyes, signifying his desperation.

Aleanu was speechless. She had never left the woods of the Outer Rim ever since she was attacked, and she never planned on doing so. Because she was an outcast, or a lone wolf as the packs called her, all of the curiosity she once had was quickly knocked out of her. And Aleanu was surviving without it.

But Aleanu was still young, and she still had that voice in the back of her head telling her to be curious. And Aleanu longed for adventure more than she longed for a decent meal.

But like her hunger, her longing for adventure was well hidden with her maturity and knowledge that she was an outcast. She could get killed if she went too close to any pack wolf, let alone any wolf. The safe answer was clear; she couldn't go.

"Aleanu, are you..." Faleon said, only to be cut off.

"I'll go," Aleanu said, only to add "only because I like freedom." What was she saying?

Faleon perked up, wagging his tail and fidgeting like a young pup. "Great! We needed some more recruits for this mission anyway,"

"We?" Suddenly, Aleanu felt uneasy. "Who's we?"

But Faleon was already trotting off. "Follow me!"

Aleanu gulped. What choice did she have? This wolf called Faleon already knew where she was residing, and apparently he wasn't alone.

Sighing, Aleanu walked behind him, head down. "Why did it have to rain?" she whispered to herself. "Why?"
