"We were completely normal.  A kind mom, a clumsy dad, and annoying little brother..."

---------

It was a late afternoon on a normal day.  Two boys, Eric and Chris, were playing together with Eric's action figure.  They enjoyed it very much, maybe too much.  Eric wasn't being very sharing of his toy, so Chris had to rebuke.  "Eric!  It's my turn to play with him."  he shouted.  "Five more minutes, Chris."  Eric argued.  "You said that five minutes ago."  "No I didn't."  Chris grabbed the figure's arm while Eric was holding tight to it.  "Hey!  Let go!" Eric shouted.  "No!  It's my turn Eric!  Mine!" Chris yelled.  What turned into a simple action game turned into a game of tug of war.  They fought to get that toy, but

10 seconds later

*Snap*

Both boys stared at the broken toy.  A tear fell from Eric, then from Chris.  They started to weep, until their father noticed.  "Hey hon," he said to his wife, "look at the kids."  The mother looked up and saw her two precious boys crying.  She came up to them with a soft, sweet voice.  "Hey you two, can you tell Mommy why you are crying?"  Eric looked up from the toy and raged, "Chris broke my toy!"  "No you did it Eric!  It was your fault!" Chris barked.  With her sweetest heart, their mother stopped them and told them,

"Chris, Eric, Listen to me okay?  When sad or painful things happen, people tend to be angry or sad because of them.  But even at those times, I want you to never forget to smile."

The boys were confused why smiling was the answer.  Then she continued,

"No matter how painful things get.  As long as your face smiles...Happiness will come to you and smiles have a strange power.  And that's not all.  A smile can make everyone around you happy too.  Now stop fighting and show mommy your smiles."

The boys listened well, and gave smiles with passion.  Their mom was filled with glee that her sons were happy.  The father came to them and asked, "Hey, how about some for your daddy?  Can I get smiles too?"  The boys came up to their father with not only a smile, but with hugs and laughter as well.  The mother came in too for a family connection filled with joy.
