"Mark?",I asked.

"Yeah?",he replied, looking up from his papers.

"I need to tell you something",

"Okay, go on",

" I think I've had a crush on you since junior high and I just now realized it."

"What did you mean you think?",

"That means I'm not so sure it's true", I answered. After that, we sat in silence for it felt like five minutes, but it was only one. I broke the silence by asking, "Don't you think we would be a good couple though?",

"I don't know, I just don't want to ruin our relationship."

"I know, but we know everything about each other, I think we would be perfect."

"I just don't know Rosie, we've known each other so long I just can't see us being a couple. And I'm not really ready for a girlfriend boyfriend relationship right now. It's too much."

"Okay, but I love you Mark. As a best friend and a boyfriend. Just remember that."

We returned to silence and he continued to work on his math.

"How do you work out this one", he asked me, pointing to a math question.

I taught him how to work the problem out and of course we returned to silence. It had become awkward between the two of us. I wanted him to leave just so I could be alone to think about what had just happened. When he finished I looked up and smiled at him as he was packing his books and papers back up and placing them back into his backpack. I started helping him put his papers away and a pile of them fell. "Oops, I've got them" , I said. He reached down as well and as we picked up the papers our hands had touched. it had happened many times before but when it happened this time he shot his hand back up as d he had been stung. it was odd, like he didn't even know me or something. I should have never told him.
