Chapter 11

Yuuji's Pov

By the time I reached the field, Eren Jaeger was giving instructions to the staff to gather up the players who were there for the Soccer Club try-outs. I sat on one of the benches to put on my ACE 16 boots and went to sit down where the midfielders should be at.

A lot of the players there were chatting while I sat down and stared into the sky like a very weird person. A few minutes later, Eren called out my name for the squad. Apparently, we get to play for about 5 to 6 minutes. Just enough time for me since I am pretty fit. I did a short stretch and went to the field.

Coincidentally, my partner happens to be someone from my old school rival, Yukito Musashi. One thing for sure, he doesn't know I exist because I wasn't in the soccer club of my middle school. But, I do know him because he was the only one to score against my schools team. Who were considered the best at the time. Though, we won 3-1. But, he scored an amazing right foot volley. I was there to see to ball curve from the right to the left corner.

Anyways, by the time I got to the field, Musashi was searching for me. When he saw me, he gave me a handshake and gave me a smile. He then said, "I'm Yukito Musashi and I'm guessing you're my midfield partner, Yuuji Watanaebe." I nodded and smiled back. He then said, "Look I usually play in the attacking midfielder role and I'm guessing you play as a defensive midfielder. So, I would like you to make defense splitting passes to everyone. Now, let's warm up and get ready."

I nodded and did some warm up. A few minutes later, it was time for the match to start. Each team had to play in the 4-4-2 position, which stinks by the way. Suddenly, the referee's whistle blew and it was time to play.

My team started the kick off and it was very tense from that point. Forwards were marked. Midfielders were tackled. Everyone wrestled for the ball. But, Musashi was amazing in that match. He made a fantastic dribble. He ran from half of the pitch and dribbled through 4 to 5 players to make the cross to one of my team's strikers. But when the striker went for a volley, the ball flew upwards and hit the crossbar.

But, good thing it deflected and I headed in the ball into the net to make 1 - 0 in the 3rd minute. Then, in the 5th minute the other team had given a foul on one of our wingers outside of the box. It was either Musashi or me who was going to take it. But, he insisted so I obliged. The keeper was waiting on the right side of the goal. Big mistake.

Because, he went for a curve shot and the ball went in. Thus, causing the score to be 2 - 0. After that, the other team was desperate to score so they went for a counter-attack and one of the players went for a long shot but I blocked it and cleared the ball to Musashi. He went for a another crazy dribble and apparently he was waiting for me. Because, he stopped his dribble in front of 2 defenders and then he passed it to me cause I wasn't being marked. I passed it to the left winger. From then on, my squad played long ball passes. I got it to the striker and he did a very well placed bicycle kick.

Suddenly, the referee's whistle blew and it signalled that the game was over. Eren then called both teams and said that, the number 6, who was me. The number 7, who was Yukito and the number 9 who was one of the exchange students who came here just to play soccer, Roberto Costa.

Wow, I have finally made the soccer club of my school.
