Andrew and I begin our trek. We don't really say anything for the first twenty minutes or so.
"So what do you think we'll see when we get there?" I ask trying to break the awkward silence.
"Probably an old house about to cave in." He answers dryly.
I roll my eyes but don't say anything in response. Right before we reach our destination, Andrew stops and shoots me a look.
"What?" I ask.
"When we get there, watch your step, stay close, and do not say a word. If we do see something unnatural, we'll only have the element of surprise. Which means-"
"Stay quiet and be careful. I know that Andrew." I interrupt with an eye roll.
"I'm serious, Scar. I don't want you to get hurt." He says.
"Worry about yourself. I can handle myself just fine. Did you already forget that I can tell when something's about to happen?." I ask.
He rolls his eyes and puts a finger to his lips signaling me to be quiet as we enter the house. To which I tsk at in response. But nevertheless, I go silent as we make our way into the house.
The house is three stories high with a basement below. Suddenly and without warning, my psychic powers kick in. I take a quick glance around and see a beam about to fall on Andrew before I pull him by his arm out of his previous position. When the beam hits the floor, I shoot Andrew a smile and step over the beam. We continue on, slowly walking around the house trying to avoid squeaky floorboards. Which is a whole lot easier said than done. We investigate the first and second floors. Both of which were clear. Once we get to the third floor, we're met with all kinds of unearthly technology and the UFO from the restaurant security tape. I quickly take pictures so I can show the group tomorrow. We hastily make our way back downstairs and open the basement door as quietly as possible. Once we opened the door, we were met with a bright green light. We walk slowly down the stairs and peek our heads around the corner of the stairway. There are glass chambers lining the walls and a giant screen on one of the walls. I begin counting the creatures I can see in the room. I count twenty in total. We can't fight all twenty. Andrew and I go back upstairs as quietly as possible. When we're close to the door, Andrew accidently steps on a loose floorboard and it breaks causing his foot to get caught. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I hear footsteps coming up the stairs so I try pulling him out.
"Just go Scar. I'll be fine, I promise. I'll meet you at school tomorrow." He tries to reason with me.
"Oh hell no. Do you really think I'm that stupid? I'm not leaving you here!" I whisper at him.
"Hurry up and go Scarlett!" He orders. Hearing the steps behind us getting closer, I do the only thing I can think of. Beaver. I feel myself shrink and start grow a tail. My teeth also gets larger and I start to produce fur. After a few seconds, I'm a beaver. Trying not to waste time, I quickly chew at the wood around his foot.
"Scarlett, you're crazy." He comments while shaking his head.
As soon as his foot is free, I shift back into a human and we make a run for it. We run as fast as we can back to the neighborhood. We stop running once we're in the public eye and start walking naturally so we don't draw attention to ourselves.
"I really regret setting our meeting for tomorrow." I say still trying catch me breath.
"Look, we're okay now. That's all that matters at the moment. Telling the rest can wait." He says.
"Yeah, I guess." I mumble.
"Thank you." He responds.
"You actually thought I was going to leave you?" I ask.
