When the twilight fades to blackness it lights a fire. Sparks fly through the warmth of the night, igniting fires of life, lighting up the darkness of the warm summer night. There is something comforting about the city, the warmth of the air, the silent noises of the world at rest. The night means downtown is lit by the neon lights of the clubs and bars, shining on the rain-kissed sidewalks. At night you can be anybody and no-one cares who you really are. It's simply you, the stars, and the city. The stars hide behind the haze of black cloud that is stretched thinly above and the moonlight bleaches the grey-scale world.

The pitch-black curtain drapes over the sky, hiding secrets that the
stars whispered in the silence of the lonely night. I gaze up at the twisted, warped shapes that the stars made against the blackness. The milky speckles twirled and danced along the sky in various patterns, tugging at the corners of my lips in a way that made me smile up at the city of stars above me. The once salmon and purple sky has now fully transformed into a vast expanse of jet-black that engulfed the town. A once colourful canvas is now replaced with layer upon layer of ink black paint, sprinkled with constellations and patterns, creating beautiful shapes in the somewhat comforting darkness of the night. A canopy of luminous stars floated amongst the ocean of blackness. Some were dull, simply flickering into existence every now and then, but there were millions of shimmering stars to illuminate the dark, moonless night.

I suddenly snap out of my daze, coming back to reality, as I continue to walk through the nearly deserted city. The streets of Toronto stretch for miles ahead of me, lined with tall buildings. A soft breeze sends a slight chill around my body, breathing out the cold air into the upcoming winter.

My eyes are drawn to the local coffee shop, the warmth drawing me closer until I am pulled into the welcoming café. My senses are immediately filled with sweet smells, memories of my childhood. I would come here with my father every evening, I had spent all my spare time here for pretty much my whole life. The smell of the coffee, the comforting sound of chatter, the sights of happiness, the warmth of the coffee between my fingers, providing a sort of barrier from the icy air outside.
But my favourite thing to do, by far, was to people watch. I'd always been fascinated by simply watching people. Couples, families, friends- they all had different ways of showing it, but had one thing that brought them together.

Love.

And as I walked into the coffee shop, I was hit with a homely sense of love once again; although I had never experienced it myself, I knew the feeling.
That feeling of immense admiration or happiness that you get when surrounded by the people you love. You feel it in your heart, your bones, your head. It consumes your whole body, drowning you in a feeling of complete happiness. And in that one moment, with the person you love, it's like it's simply the two of you, not ever wanting to grow up, just living in the moment, together. Without a care in the world.

I find myself walking up to the counter, and ordering my usual- vanilla crème frappuccino. I hand over the money, and automatically move over to the end of the counter to wait for my drink, almost robotically- as if I had been doing the same routine for years and years.

"Vanilla crème frappuccino for Y/N" said a voice from behind me.

I didn't recognise his voice, he must've been new, but he had the most soothing accent. I turn around with a smile, to be met with a new face, that, although I had never seen it, I felt like I had known it for years. His features seemed to be lined up perfectly, his hazel eyes crinkled slightly as he smiled. The light reflected from his sparkling eyes, as they told a million stories, that I could read over again countless times. The glowing lights from the street outside painted with shadows on his face, painting beauty onto a blank canvas to create a masterpiece like no other. His hair was ruffled slightly, yet still possessed a sense of sleekness and maturity.

"Thankyou, very much," I tell him, smiling gently as I reach for my cup

"My pleasure," he responded, keeping his hand over mine for a second, before removing it almost as quickly as he had put it there. "I hope you have a good night" he responds.
Was he blushing slightly?
"Thankyou, same for you," I respond. I paused for a bit, before saying, "Y/N, by the way"

He grins and says, "Shawn," nodding at me before turning back to the drinks machine.
I smile once again, and walk out of the café, immediately being hit with the cold winter air. Lifting the cup to my lips, I sigh, before taking a sip of the drink, and bringing it back down. I notice some writing on the cup, and curiously turn it round to see what it said.
On the cup, was a number:
07691 847**** (A/N: insert random number lmao idk what to put)

I laugh joyfully, taking out my phone, and walking into the night.
