Part 3: Desperation

-Erza's Pov-

Our glances caught each other before I harshly looked away and averted my gaze back to the people I was talking to in the corner. They were intimidating, but not as intimidating as the idea of having to talk to Jellal again after all this time. My confidence shattered as soon as I saw him fish in his pocket and play with a box. He smirked at me and his eyes glinted with mischief. Shivers were sent through my spine even though I felt protected in my armor. Another, prettier, woman started rubbing his arm and flirting with him, and I immediately got jealous when he flirted back. They lust he had in his eyes when he looked at her stung my self worth. 

I shed a tear. A singular tear. I was trying to collect my thoughts together, desperately, as I saw him walking over to me. I wiped my tear and brushed his shoulder on my way past him. Screw this job, it didn't pay much anyways. I just need to get back to the guild. I need to get a distraction. Fast. 

"ERZA!!!"- I could hear Natsu's scream from across the crowded street as he rushed towards me. I brushed yet another singular tear away from my cheek.

"Yes, Natsu?"

"Gray is being mean again."- I sighed and hit the back of his head.

"You need to learn how to take care of yourself. Just because Gray is strong, and hardly ever wears clothes, doesn't mean you can't beat his ass."

"But Lucy said for us to stop fighting, and Gray said, 'I guess Lucy is right. It isn't a fair fight anyways. We all know I would win' AND SO I SAID, 'LIKE HELL BASTARD! FIGHT ME RIGHT NOW!!!' and HE SAID 'You really think you could beat me?' and WALKED OFF!!! HE CAN'T JUST DO THAT!!!"- I eventually tuned Natsu out and focused back in on my own thoughts. Only Jellal kept me from plunging deeper into the darkest pits of my mind.

What was he doing now? Was he with that girl?

"ERZA!!!"

"JESUS WHAT?!"

"What is he doing here?!"- I looked up from the ground as tear filled my eyes and I saw Jellal. Holding a box. At me. Like I was supposed to open it. 

"Just- I know you don't wanna talk, but please keep this."- I nodded and took the box, stealing a quick glance at him as he walked out. 

"WAIT!"- He turned back at my surprisingly squeaky voice. 

"You can stay..."
