The school bell rung and we stood watching the Cherry blossoms fall. I was happy but I knew this could never take my mind off of the thoughts racing through my mind. Something was happening.
We walked into the building together and went to class. In school we were educated about everything in the world. My least favorite subject was the most important. The Masters ED. It didn't really interest me. Not that girls could be masters. Only men can be Masters; but we were still supposed to learn it. I looked a bit into it today though since my brother was to be apart of the trials.
I found a book on Masters in the Library and checked it out. I sat at one of the tables in the Library and opened it. I began reading. Those in training to become Masters must be pure. They're hearts must show the utmost purity or they won't be chosen. When the one individual is chosen by the last pure Marigold they can still fail the Golden Marigold and then-... the books page is torn. I looked at the other side to find nothing but blank pages for the rest of the book until the very end. I found an oddly shaped drawing of what looked like a gas and above it was titled Helliot. There was no information on that either,
I walked back to class to pick up my things to find Ms. Wright was still in there. I walked up to her desk. "Ms. Wright?" She looked up at me surprised.
"Well hello miss Violet." Teachers always called children by their last names after class was over. I think it's weird.
"Do you know what happens to those not chosen by the golden Marigold?" I asked. She thought for a moment.
"There's a book in the library about-" I held it up. "Oh, is it not in there? Well then I don't know. No one does. But no one will ever not be chosen by the Golden Marigolds. That would probably cause a disaster to befall the Controlled Society. Now run along young one." I nodded as a thank you and walked out of her classroom.
She was my last period class and now I was free to go home but I wanted to do some research to see if I could find anything. I checked out twenty more books on Masters but found nothing. I tried researching it on the computer but still... nothing. It's as if all answers had vanished. I sighed getting up returning the books to the Librarian and making my way out of the building.
I saw Vincent talking to Amelia. She looked up and smiled at me. She was the second friend I made in preschool. Vincent was the very first. I'd love to tell you how we met but let's save that for another time. "Hey! Where have you been? Your group was spotted heading towards the Fortunes of Eden. Why aren't you with them?" She asked with her hands on her hips.
"I was doing some research." I muttered off to the side with a slightly ghostly expression.
"On what?" I stared at her. What could I say? After all I couldn't lie.
"I don't have to tell you." I turned away from her as she stood agape. I've never shut down her questions like that before. I looked to Vincent with a quizzical look. Why is he still here?
"I knew you would do Research on them...so I waited for you." I smiled. He knew me too well...or he could read minds which would be a serious problem when hormones began to kick in. My mother told me all about them. No amount of medication could stop them because they were so natural to our bodies.
"Wanna come with me to the Fortunes?" I asked shyly.
"Sure." I took his hand and we walked off leaving a dumbfounded Amelia. Once we were there my mother called me over. I walked to her with Vincent right beside me. She looked at him, then to me and then to our intertwined hands.
