Two Thousand Miles

A/N: This is my first time writing in 2nd Person, so I apologise if it's sloppy.

Please give feedback :)

You read through the brief that the Future Foundation gave you, yet again.

"Search the main cities of Okinawa for Despair activity.

Make a note of alliances in the area. Inquire about reactions to the Despair videos."

An easy enough task, as you had been sent with nineteen other members from the Fifth Division. After all, searching an entire prefecture by yourself would take far too much time, and would not be worth the effort.

You had been sent to Hattori City, previously known as Naha, one of the southern areas of the prefecture. You were currently near the coast, questioning your choices of location due to the intense heat.

You sighed and wiped some sweat off your brow, and retied the bun in your hair. The shorter parts near the nape of your neck were already falling out, you noticed with an annoyed huff. You shouldn't have cut it so short. You smoothed down your tank top and cargo trousers, and readjusted the belt on your hips, containing a hacking gun, hidden survival knife and semiautomatic pistol for self-defence. Hopefully you wouldn't need to use any of them; fighting wasn't your main area of expertise, and the area should be clear of Monokumas.

A few years back, before the Tragedy, you were invited to Hope's Peak Academy as the Ultimate Intelligence Gatherer, as part of the 76th Class. Despite your young age at the time, you were very good at collecting information while carefully managing risks and working within the law.

It certainly fitted that you were part of the Fifth Division.

You glanced up from your spot in the dining area of a long-abandoned restaurant, up at the sea that was lapping at the garbage-ridden shore when you heard a ship horn. It was just leaving the port.

'Hm,' you thought, 'not many boats can be used anymore. Whoever left must have high status.'

You stood up, having to hold wisps of your (H/C) hair out of your face now that the half-broken glass wall wasn't disrupting the path of the wind, and made your way over.

---

You approached the surprisingly intact building that housed Hattori City's port control. Your footsteps echoed hollowly around the road, each sound bouncing off the rectilinear buildings on either side of the path. The loud sounds made you feel nervous, as you could attract the attention of hostile beings. Even if the area was supposed to be clear of Monokumas, it didn't mean that some Remnant of Despair hadn't distributed more. You were perfectly aware that the Ultimate Mechanic was one of the more feared Despairs, along with the rest of the 77th Class and some elusive long-haired figure that you had difficulty finding information on. It was a shame, really; you knew your underclassmen well before the Incident, and other than the one who caused three of your classmates to get expelled, you would never have thought that they would become worldwide terrorists, even if the method was brainwashing.

You had heard that Makoto Naegi had reconditioned them, so maybe they would have less problems... Ah, wait. They released a video claiming responsibility of the killing game the Division Heads took part in.

You never actually saw that video. The news of it spread through the Division like wildfire, so you decided to look up on it and trace the source. During your information gathering, you found out that it was actually the Future Foundation leader, Kazuo Tengan, who orchestrated the killing game.

You've reached the end of published parts.
