I woke up at 5am to the sound of my alarm, Ethan singing can't help falling in love. I had a dream last night about the time I went to PAX almost two years ago, I met Ethan and had him sign a picture and gave him some fan art. I also got a hug and a picture with him. It was the best day of my life and I have finally saved up enough money to go again this year! My family is lower class and we're sorta poor so I had to work for the money and do odd jobs for the neighbors. I live in a trailer park in Illinois. I'm 17 years old and as soon as I turn 18 I'm moving to LA. I have enough money saved up for a decent house and all the other expenses, I've been saving up for it since I was 12. I live with my mom, my dad passed away when I was 14. My mom and I don't get along very well, which is one of the main reasons I want to move out. I took a shower and put on a cgp hoodie and some jeans. I did my makeup and started to drive to school. I get there around 6:30am every day which is kinda early, school starts at 7:20 but buses pull in around 7. I have English first hour with Mr.Kurt or Mr.K, he's also the drama teacher, and a long time family friend.
"Good morning Brook" he said as I walked in
"Mornin Mr.K, what's the game plan for today?" I ask as I put my bag away in my theater locker in the back of the class.
"I actually don't really know, I was gonna wing it but nothing really came to me besides using today as a writing day for your papers. How's yours coming along by the way?" He says
"I'm almost done with my second draft, I love this assignment" I said and I sat in my seat
"I'm glad to hear that, Who did you choose to wrote about?" He asked
"A couple youtubers, mainly one though" I said
"May I ask who?" He asked
"Crankgameplays, he's not a very big youtuber but he's my favorite" I smiled
"My daughter loves his channel" he smiled back
"He's very entertaining" I said
"Indeed he is, can I ask how he impacted your life though? Not to be a Debby downer but how could he help you when he doesn't really know you?" He asked
"It's fine, I get that question a lot actually, usually from my mother. When my dad died I went through a very difficult time, as you know, and well his videos were pretty much the only thing that could make me smile and just tune out all the bullshit that was going on in my life. And when I met him at PAX I completely forgot about everything bad that had happened. I can't wait to meet him again." I smiled
"Wow, I never knew that YouTube videos could make such a difference in people's lives" he said
"Yeah, he's great" I said
"I'm very excited to read your paper, you're a very talented writer" he said
"Thanks, I love writing, it helps me clear my mind" I said
Students started to fill the classroom a few minutes later. I didn't know anyone in the class, it was mainly popular people. And I, for one, am not popular. I'm far from it. after a while, the bell rang and class had began.
"alright guys, today is going to be a writing day. we'll be in the library so when I'm done speaking collect your things and head down there. for those of you who have yet to start their paper, the topic is to write about a person who has greatly impacted your life and explain why. don't be afraid to use some emotion, you aren't robots." Mr.K said and dismissed the class.
the class cleared out and i went to get my bag.
"Brook?" he said
"Yeah" i said glancing over my shoulder at him
"I'm not expecting you to become popular or anything but could you try to make some friends this year? i think you'd be happier if you did" he smiled sincerely.
"you don't get it, do you?" i said shaking my head with a slight chuckle
"what?" he asked
"I'm just a nobody, no one pays attention to me here. I have like one friend but we hardly see each other this year. no one wants to be friends with the 'broken emo girl' as they like to call me. I'm not even emo for Christ's sake." i said
"you're right about one thing" he said
"yeah? and whats that?" i asked
"you're definitely not emo, you're a punk" he chuckled
"wowww, thanks for clearing that up" i said letting out a small laugh
"there's the girl i know, smiling and laughing. you used to be so cheerful Brook, what changed?" he asked
"high school." i said
"it can't just be high school, what is it? you can trust me, Brook" he said placing a hand on my shoulder.
he looked at me with concern filled eyes. i don't know if i can tell him about what goes on with my mom. he'd make sure i got taken away. which i guess would be for the best, but what if my new family was worse, i don't want a new family. i can take care of myself. as if he could read my mind, his next words hurt.
"is something going on at home? does your mom....does she... hurt you?" he managed to choke out the words.
i just looked at him as tears poured out of my eyes. damn, how did he manage to break me? i thought i was stronger than this. he pulled me into an embrace and told me everything would be alright. after i had stopped crying he pulled away and looked me in the eyes.
"you know i have to tell someone, right?" he said
"No, please, don't tell anyone. they'll take me away.i can take care of myself." i said
"you know i cant keep this a secret. however, if it makes you feel better, i could adopt you?" he said
"r-really?" i asked
"of course, iv'e already ran it by my wife because i suspected something was going on since last week when you came in with the black eye. i could tell you were lying about how you got it." he said
"t-that wasn't my mom...it was her new boyfriend." i said
"w-what? why would he do that?" he asked
"because I didn't have dinner done by the time he got home." i sighed
"i have a plan" he said

A/N: alright guys, i hope you like the first chapter. i modeled most of the stuff off my own life except the abuse, don't worry, if safe :D i have some big plans for this book so i hope you guys enjoy it. see you lovely's in the next chapter :D this is a general idea for what Brook looks like btw
