I walk down the cracked sidewalk with my camera around my neck and look up at the sky to look at the beautiful splayed-out stars.
I look back at the street; I can see the shadow of a person sitting on the curb just ahead. I walk a bit closer so that I can see him more clearly.
"Excuse me?"
He stands up to face me. He looks familiar. But I just can't remember at the moment.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a creep, but I've had a rough night and I need a ride home". I stare at him, wondering what to say. He could murder me and steal my car. My shitty car.
"Uh..." What's the worse that could happen?...
"I'll give you $20" He offers.
"Ok" Ok? There are 171,476 words in the English language and you chose the shortest word. Two letters. O. K. What if he kills you? Actually. Give him a ride. It'll be fine.
"Thank you so much!" He thanks me and starts walking with me towards my car.
I get into the car and he gets into the passenger side. He looks at me and smiles. Suddenly something jumps onto the hood and startles me.
"A kitty!" He yells with a huge smile plastered on his face. He must love cats? I smile at his reaction. Reminds me of him.
"Where to?" I can't go until I know where we're going.
"420 SE Arturm Street"
"You're kidding" Is he kidding?
"No?... Why" He asks in confusion. I should probably enlighten him on that.
"We live on the same street, I guess," I think nothing of it. Just a coincidence.
"Wait-" He stops. I look back at him just for a second then turn back to the road. My curiosity grows as he stays quiet.
"Elly?" He asks quietly, but not too quietly. I face him, as I do he opens his mouth to speak but closes it again. Only one person used to call me that.
"Harold?" I haven't seen him in years. He's changed so much that I didn't even recognize him, I probably never would have.
We stay quiet for a bit longer. Unsure of what to say as I pull up to his house and stop.
"Good night, I don't want the money", I let him know with a smile
"Thank you again. And Good night..." He says quietly as he steps out
He shuts the door and the light in the car turns off, leaving me in the dark with the music playing.
I get home and the lights are on already. I live alone.
I step out of the car and can hear music playing from inside. I walk up to the door and unlock it. I push it open and there's Beck, sitting on my couch.
