Well, that just happened. I watched, amazed, as Bruce flawlessly turned into the Hulk and smashed the Chitauri Leviathan. The creature turned a 180° and crashed on the ground.
"I'm gonna pretend I'm not a little freaked out by that," I squeaked. My throat was dry. I had never seen Bruce in action before and honestly, it was a little scary.
"Says the woman who threw him out of a flying hellicarrier," Tony snorted.
"Yeah, and I don't intend to do that again," I replied, not looking at him.
Suddenly there was a piercing wail and the sky began to turn dark. We all looked up to see the impossible. My heart beat skyrocketed. Loki was sending in more and more of the Chitauris along with three gigantic Chitauri Leviathans. It was just us against them and I knew that this was going to be a tough fight.
"Guys," warned Natasha.
"Call it, Cap." said Tony. I almost began to answer but realized that by Cap, he meant Steve.
"All right, listen up," Steve began, "until we can close that portal up there, we're gonna use containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or turn it to ash."
"Wanna give me a lift?" Clint asked Tony as he began to get his bow ready.
"Right. Better clench up, Legolas." said Tony, lifting Clint up and dropping him off at the roof of the building.
Steve continued, "Thor, you've gotta try and bottleneck that portal. Slow them down. You've got the lightning, light those bastards up," Thor nodded his head and flew away. Steve then turned to Natasha, "you and me, we stay here on the ground. Keep the fighting here. And Danvers, I trust you to do what you think is right."
I nodded my head. Of course he wouldn't command me to do anything for him. I, too, was a captain, hence the same position as him. And Steve's understanding about this matter made me like him more.
"And Hulk," Steve finally finished, "SMASH!"
The Hulk smiled his most magnificent grin and leaped into the air, soaring high into the nearest building and breaking the Chitauris into half.
I decided that my priority were the civilians. I immediately ran to where some of the civilians were held captive. They were being threatened by a bunch of aliens. I slowly creeped up behind them and tapped one on the back. Just when it turned around, I stabbed it in the eye with a piece of glass. The being screamed and fell to the floor. I kicked it hard, finishing it at last.
All the other Chitauris turned away from the citizens and got busy attacking me. Since all of them were huddled in one single place, I walked away from them and picked up a broken car. The Chitauri stopped in their place and looked at me, confused. I held the car over my head and threw it at them with all my might. Before they knew what was happening, the Chitauri were crushed by the car.
"You guys need to get out of here," I said to the civilians held captive, "Go to the nearest subway and make sure you don't get killed. Now go, go, go, go!"
One by one the people started to get out of their confined space and ran to the subway, except one woman.
"My son," she whimpered, "he can't walk."
I looked behind her to find a small boy sitting against a broken wall. He didn't have legs from knee down and his wheel chair lay crushed beside him. I motioned for the mother to go, assuring her that I would get her son.
"Hey buddy, what's your name?" I asked, kneeling down beside him.
"Jack." he whispered, clutching his thigh.
