Before Our Last Breath

A Day to Remember

It Friday January 27, 2001.
Daniel is still mad and be super annoying. It wasn't my fault he and Cayden left me. Cayden has two more days of being grounded. Daniel still has a week more. He been taking out his angry on me. He been playing mean jokes on me and calling me names. It makes me so angry I just h...don't like him right now.
I am in school right now. We learning more about subtraction and adding. Which to me is pretty easy.
I put my pencil down. I look over to the clock, the big and hand is on the 11 and small hand is on the 11 meaning I have 5 more minutes until lunch. Thank god because I am hunger I thought if I had a big breakfast, I wouldn't be hunger. But I am maybe because my breakfast wasn't that big. I had Cereal, two apples and apple juice. I grab my two worksheets and I get up from my seat. I walk over to the teachers desk and I see her smiling. Ms. Miller and I get along very well as long as all my work is done. I am at her desk and she hand her the papers. I stand their waiting for her to grade them. She finally grade it and shows me.
I smiling and walk over to my desk. I am so happy I got an A, so happy I can't wait to tell Aunt May. I hope Daniel not there we I tell her. Because he then going keep calling me a nerd and geek. I wish sometimes he just leave me alone. Why can't he be like Cayden who said sorry like seven times. I even maked him play with me once just to another him. I forgive Cayden he was Justin's listen Daniel, them to are like brothers they are so close. But they are different beside them like games,sports and they are boys.
The bells goes off and I get up and walk over to the door. Ms. Miller lets me go by myself to the lunch room and some others kids. So I open the door and I follow all the other kids who going to the lunch room. Everybody in this school has the same time of lunch which is exactly at 12:00 pm. I walking into the lunch room when I see Caleb in the lunch line. He doesn't see me because he talking to other kids but it okay. I start walking to line and take what ever the lunch lady gave us. Today is Grilled cheese the best but not as good as Auntie May. Those are so good but I am in school so I can't get any. I grab my apple juice and I walk over to any empty table.
I sit and I look around the lunch room. I see Caleb talking to some people. I see Daniel and Cayden talking to other people. Today Cayden is sitting with me when he finishes lunch but before that Caleb is going to sit with me in about five minutes. Cayden and Daniel don't like Caleb so Cayden is sitting with when Caleb leaves my table.
Caleb is walking to my table right now which makes me super happy because most of the time I sit alone. He sits right next to me and I smile, he smiles back. We start eating our lunch and after a while. We finally start talking once we threw away out Lunches.
" Favorite color?" He says.
" Light Blue" as I point to my light blue dress. He nods his head and his cheeks turns a bit red.
" What yours"
" Mine is dark green" I laugh because my eyes where dark green.
" What's so funny, it just a color" I roll eyes and smile.
" My eyes are dark green" he  cheeks turns red. I smile and now wondering why is his cheeks red.
" I know they are" I playful hit arms.
" How about we hangout at my house after school" I smile and nod.
" Great can't wait Rose" as he messes my hair up. I lean over and kiss his cheek. He cheeks turn really red. He gets up and walk over to his friends and then I see Cayden who looks mad.
He sits next to me and gives me a glare. This is not good he is going to talk to me about Caleb. What does he care Caleb just a friend who happens to be a boy. Who is in his classroom and also two years older me.
" Why did you give Caleb kiss on the cheek" he says angry but calm.
" Because I am happy that I am going to his house today" Cayden faces turns super red.
" What! You can't go also you didn't ask Aunt May!" He says loud for me to hear.
" She going to let me, you and Daniel go to your friends houses all the time" as I point to Daniel and their friends.
" That different there are boys we don't go to girls houses" I roll my eyes.
" Well Caleb is my only friend here and also he Daniel's cousin so Aunt May is not going to mind" he rolls his eyes. He ca, s down and we continue talking until lunch is over.
After School
I walk down the stairs and I see Caleb. I walk over to him and I smile. He is talking to people so I wait for him to finish. He taking forever so I tap on his shoulder. He turns his head and smiles big.
" Hi shorty" I roll my eyes. He used shorty when joking but my real name when being not joking.
" Hi tally come on we need to go" I smile and pull his arm.
" Where are we going shorty?"
" We going to Aunt May and he car to ask her" he nods. That when I hear lots honking and I turn to see Aunt May in the car. We walk over to we her car and we walk to the passenger window.
" Hi Auntie May can I go over to Caleb's house...please" she thinking about it and smiles.
" If Caleb's mom is okay with it then I am okay with it" she looks at Caleb.
" She Okay with It Aunt May, I ask her yesterday" she nods and we enter the car. I didn't notice Cayden and Daniel until now.  Auntie May starts driving and I look over to her she smiling really big. I look over to Cayden and Daniel they both look pretty mad maybe that why she smiling. She knows the boys don't like Caleb and that why she mostly said yes. Well that what I think and I look over to Caleb and he looking out the window.  Maybe I shouldn't bother him, he looks to peacefully. 
The car finally stops in front a house. It is like my house but a bit more smaller. It look like it had a living, kitchen, two beds rooms and a bathroom.  Beside that it looks like it had nothing more that but I could be wrong. We say our goodbyes and Auntie May give Caleb and I five dollars each. The boys pop and they start saying things quietly bug I think Auntie May heard because she gave them a glare. We quickly get out and we walk over to the house. We wave go good and the car goes away.
We stand there in front of door and it quickly opens to a lady. She look younger than Auntie May, So looks too young to be Caleb's mom. We walk in and she smiles and takes our jackets.
" Caleb, Homework and food will be done at seven" he nods and start walking up the stairs. I quickly try to follow but I lost him. I look around but I didn't see Caleb , I got worried I am lost. I see Caleb pops his head out a room.  I quickly start walking fast to the room. I enter and Caleb closes the door. I walk to his bed and sit, he throws his bag and he grabs my bag and but on the floor. He throws himself to his bed and I laugh.
"Someone looks super tried" as I lay down with him.
" Yeah because third grade is so tough"
" It can't be that bad" as my hand touches his.
" Yes we learn multiplication, division, science and social studies" he hold my hand right now.
" Everything going to okay" as I mess up his hair. He rolls his eyes and their just quiet. I take quiet for a while but I got bored. So I get up and I take my homework from my book bag. I walk over to a table, I pull the car out and I sit. I start on my math homework which is super easy for me.
After a while of math homework and my reading homework. I put my homework in my bag and I look over to Caleb's bed he not there. I look over to the other side of the table I see Caleb finish ping his homework. I didmd hear him get up, i kisumu really love my homework then. I close my bag and out in on the floor.
" So what are we going to do" as I get up from the chair.
" We could get snacks and watch a movie" I nod.
He opens the door and walks out. I wait for a while but he never came up so I walk out the room. It been like two minutes but I didn't care I want to know what is talking so long. I walking down the stairs to see Caleb in the kitchen. That when the smell of popcorn goes to my nose. He making popcorn I love popcorn, I love it more when it salty and buttery that so good.  I look around the kitchen I didn't see the lady. I walk over to Caleb and tap his shoulder.
" Where the lady" I ask. He smiles and looks around. Once he found what he is looking for he eyes are back to mine.
" She sleeping on the couch" as he whisper
" Who is she, is that your mother?"
" No she my babysitter/ house keeper but she always leaves at ten clock and she doesn't come until I am home" we still whisper so the lady didn't hear us.  I nod my head and open up the fridge. I grab two apple juice boxes and I see Caleb putting the popcorn in a bowl. We walk upstairs and walk to his room. Once we enter I lay on his bed while he puts the popcorn next to me. He walks over to the DVD player and looks to me.
" Superhero movies is all I got sorry" I smile and nod.
" Which ones" he smiles.
" All of them they are in cartoons because my mother doesn't let me watch the one with real people, I don't know why" as he roll his eyes.
" Anyone I don't mind" as stick my hand in the popcorn. I stuff my mouth with popcorn. Caleb puts a movie on and he walks over to the bed. He lays with me and stuff his mouth with popcorn. After laughing and playing around while still watching the movie we now having a tickle fight. I on top him tickling his neck while he tickling my stomach. We both laughing super hard and smiling. We are having so much fun. After a while we stop and start watching the movie again. We are so silent but it felt nice to watch a movie in silent.
After finishing the movie and the popcorn. We are still quiet and look over to the time it is 5:30pm. I didn't know when Aunt May is coming. Maybe she would call and tell me. I pull out by my thoughts when a ring sound starts. I look over to Caleb and he picks up the phone. That where the ring sound came for.  He starts talking and talking about something I didn't know what.
" Who is that" I say.
" Aunt May"
"Oh, so what did she say"
" She coming right now to pick you up"
" Okay well I had a really nice time" as I walk over to him. As I walking I trip but I dint hit the floor. I am catching and I look at the arms it is Caleb he catches me. I look over him and thank him. He says it nothing, I grab my bag and he walk side by side down stairs. We are now holding hands I didn't know this until now. We walk towards the door and I see the lady again but this time cooking. We reach the door and I smile at Caleb.
" I had a nice to time maybe we could do this next time" he nods. I lean closer and hug him and he hugs me back. We pulls away and try to kiss Caleb cheek and he trying to kiss mine. But that didn't happen our lips touch. We pull away and both of us our cheeks are red. We lean in again and we both kiss each other's lips. We pull away when honking start from outside. He opens the door and he waves goodbye and I smile.  I walk towards the door and enter the car. We drive away from his house.
" Did you have fun?" Auntie May asks.
" Yes it a day to always remember!"

Author's Note
This story isn't always going to be them six years old. No in the next two chapters Rose will be Ten . Then Caleb, Cayden and Daniel will be thirteen. Also Aunt May and Caleb's Mom are sisters. That doesn't make Rose and Caleb cousins because Aunt May isn't actually Rose and Cayden real aunt. Their mom and Aunt May are so close they were like sister. So that why Cayden and Rose call her Aunt May.
