It was a serious blow for Asgore when his Queen decided to leave his side, especially after having lost their children. It was hard for him trying to go on ignoring the sadness and the emptiness that those two losses had left behind.
His life had become like a torture: sleeping in a bed too big, too cold, too empty even for him; doing everything in his routine: the simplest thing reminded him of his past life. Sometimes, he would hear familiar sounds, like Tori humming a sweet melody in the kitchen while baking a butterscotch pie, or Asriel calling them to play together. He missed every single thing about his family, or better what it used to be. His loneliness grew day by day, until he was forced to delete every memory of that period full of pure happiness. He closed himself and his heart, making it dull. The scars on it fading slowly and inexorably.
Could be thanks to that human, could be because of destiny, after lots of years he was finally able to recover the happiness he lacked for a long time. Meeting Tori again, talking with her was like being born again and he knew that was a possibility, a second chance the same sad life he had lived for years was offering him. It surely took time for them to become close again, especially because of Tori's scepticism and his own fear of hurting her again. Anyway, it happened.
The two of them gathered back together: it surely wasn't simple for them to avoid the memory of Asriel, but having Frisk with them was helpful and a good way to keep them busy. Not to mention, after the end of the war and the freedom in the Surface, it wasn't rare to meet up almost every day with the other monsters to celebrate their new life in harmony with humans, to have lunch or talking for entire afternoons. Having Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, Alphys and, why not, Mettaton too with them, in their house, seemed like having to take care of little big offspring to them: every one of them different from the other, but still a big, great, beautiful family.
-Tori? You already asleep, honey?- asked the King, gently caressing his wife's shoulder with his big, yet soft hand
-No, Gorey. What is it?-
-You know, dear. I thank fate every day for its present: having the possibility to made up with you, knowing I won't be alone anymore... It means everything for me: I missed you so much for ages...-
Toriel turned just to meet her husband's gentle gaze in the darkness; she gave him a caress on his cheek and, after smiling gently, she planted a light kiss on his lips -I missed you, too, my dear. I hope this will be the beginning of a cheerful life together that will never end. We won't separate anymore, I swear-
-Me too, Tori. I love you from the bottom of my heart-
