Merendy stared at the vast ocean silently. Her brother is waving back at Whale Island, a huge smile painting his face. It made Merendy look away.
"We'll definitely come back! We'll become the best Hunters in the world! Me and Merendy!" His cheer made the other applicants annoyed. They glared at the oblivious boy and snickered.
"You have some guts saying that kid." A man with a scar sneered.
"All of us here are qualified to take the Hunter Exam." Another one replied.
"Don't say something you can't back up, brat." A bunch of laughter followed. Gon didn't seem to mind, but he walked around with a small frown on his face.
Merendy muttered profanities under her breath and followed after him.
Merendy noticed that her brother stopped to look at sailor. The sailor is kind of wimpy and is currently being bullied by the other sailors. However, her attention was stolen by the restless seagulls above her head.
Faintly, she heard the wimpy sailor thanking her brother. But that didn't matter to her. She tugged on her brother's sleeves and pointed at the seagulls.
"......Storm....." She told him and his eyes widened with realization. Immediately, he quickly made his way up the post.
He stayed up there for a few moments before he looked back. Gon stared at his sister with alarmed eyes.
"Meren, what do you hear?" He asked her. She could feel the captain of the ship staring at them, but didn't bother to think much about it.
She raised her head, and heard. She heard how the wind seems to twist in an unnatural manner. It's twisting into something. A natural disaster.
"It's....unstable.." She eventually replied. She watched Gon look at the captain.
"A huge storm is coming!" He shouted. The captain's eyes widened.
"It's true! I can tell by the smell and Meren heard it!" Merendy tugged on the captain's sleeve to gain his attention. He looked at her and saw her nod, but he didn't see the same determined eyes that her brother had. The captain only saw a mask.
'These children....'
*~*~*~*
Merendy sat on her corner silently. The boat kept swaying so whenever it moved to the right, her whole body gets carried to the right. The same thing happens when the boat sways to the left. She wrapped her arms around her legs in an attempt to keep herself warm. She was starting to get dizzy, but that's not because the boat won't stop moving.
It's because of her brother.
He runs around the room, trying to help the knocked out people to regain some of their color. Merendy have never seen such a pale person before. But not everyone in the room is pale and drained of their own strength. She noticed that the person lying on a hammock is calmly reading a book. While the person wearing a suit is sitting on a barrel. He's having trouble eating the sour apples.
She hugged herself tighter. There's no wind, but it still feels cold. She holds out her hands in front of her and puffs out some of her breath. She rubs her hands before letting them rest at her sides.
Her head is buzzing again.
And this time, she sees weird dead shapes lying across the room. However, the image is gone before she could comprehend what it means. Gon called her and she looked up. He motioned for her to stand up and she did. The action caused the bells on her mask to jingle.
"Ne Meren, the captain told us to come with him so I need you to hold my hand 'kay?" She nodded silently and placed her hand on top of his.
The buzzing in her head is gone, but it will probably return.
