Chapter One
“Freak,” Someone shoves past me, knocking me and my books to the floor. I stare at the red and white tiling and take a few deep, calming breaths. I just got to school and already I’m being terrorized.
“How original,” I mumble as I get up and grab my books off the ground.
“What did you say?” Chad Nelson while says looking at me as if I’m a bug on his mustang convertible’s windshield. He's known as (by the cheerleaders at least) the second hottest guy at Beachside High. To me, personally, I don't see what the big deal is. He's tall, muscular and has gorgeous green eyes, yes, but he has a jerk-like personality. Plus, he's not my type.
“I said-”
“Just leave her alone,” Aaron Star says. He's Chad's best friend and the hottest guy in school, even by my standards. “She’s not worth it.”
“He’s right,” A blond cheerleader giggles and grabs onto Aaron’s arm. “He always is.”
“Ugh,” I try to keep myself from throwing up as I walk away towards my locker. That whole group disgusts me. It’s one huge group of vane spotlight addicts with too much money to spend.
I walk to my locker and try not to draw any more attention to myself. When I open up my locker a note falls out and I don’t even bother to read it before I toss it in the trash. I know who it’s from just by looking at the handwriting. It’s from Zoe Price, the blond cheerleader who is always attached to Aaron either by the hands or lips. I shudder involuntarily as I think of Aaron and that slut making out in the backseat of his car. Yuck.
“…today.” A voice says from my left.
“Huh?” I turn in the direction of the voice and I’m starring directly into two sea green eyes.
“I’m sorry about Chad acting like that today,” Aaron says as he leans casually against the locker beside mine. His muscles flex underneath his grey t-shirt as he crosses his tan arms over his chest. I gulp and before I can stop myself I mentally undress him down to his boxers. Even though he isn’t my type, I have to admit, he’s extremely good looking.
“Oh,” I compose myself and flip my long, black hair over my shoulder while my cheeks burn red. No doubt he just noticed me checking him out. “It’s fine…really…I’m used to it.”
Aaron slams his fist against the locker he was leaning on and I jump.
“That’s what I hate!” He says. “He treats everyone like shit and he gets away with-”
“It’s fine,” I try and smile convincingly. “Seriously. No blood, no fowl, right?”
“Right,” His lips press into a thin line. His full, luscious, kissable-
Stop it! I think to myself.
“So…I’ve got class and I should be…” I shove a few books into my locker, followed by my backpack.
“Aaron!” Chad’s voice yells from somewhere down the hall. “Stop talking to that freak and come on!”
“You should go,” I say. “Don’t want to keep your posy waiting.”
“They’re not my-”
“Just go,” I say, pleading with my eyes and hoping he listens to me.
“I’ll…yeah…” Aaron nods towards Chad and his group and backs away.
“Was that who I think it was!?” My best friend, Kyra Haywood, asks, appearing at my side.
“Maybe,” I mumble as I let my bangs fall in front of my burning cheeks hiding them from her view.
“Damn,” Kyra leans against the same locker Aaron had and stares at me with her black eyes.
“What?” I ask.
“The hottest guy in the universe was talking to you,” She stares at me as if I’ve got three heads. “And you’re able to stand here calmly!?”
“I really don’t know what you want me to say…” I grab my Biology book and close my locker.
“Ugh,” Kyra links her arm through mine and walks with me towards the Biology classroom.
"I can't believe you think I-"
"Shh!" Kyra starts tilting her head towards the door and I roll my eyes before sitting down in my desk. Kyra sits down beside me in her usual spot and smiles maliciously.
"What?" I ask.
"He's looking at you," She says. "Honey, he's totally into you. Why else would he be checking out an emo freak like you?
"Thanks," I say.
"I'm being serious!"
"I know," I say. "I am an emo freak. Oh, look, he's moved on." I gesture to Aaron who has Zoe straddling him while sucking his face off. "Gross."
"You wish that was you," Kyra says. "Admit it, you do. Deep down you do. Every girl does."
"We will be changing seats today," Mrs. Hicks says as she walks in the classroom just as the bell rings. She then begins to call everyone's names out.
"Now...Kacie and..."
"Please be Kyra, please be Kyra," I mumble with my fingers crossed under the desk. "Please be-"
"And Aaron."
"Damn it!" I lean my head down on the desk and let out a frustrated sigh.
"Now, Aaron, you can either have Kacie move over to you or you can move over to her desk. Which will it be?"
"I'll move over there," Aaron smiles one of his breathtaking smiles and gracefully makes his way over to me. Kyra gets up as if in a trance and lets him take her seat. I'm suddenly aware of Aaron's presence beside me and it makes me cringe slightly. This is not going to be a fun way to end my junior year.
