Just so you know, this story takes place in 1954, so no confusion! xx
Rose's POV
"Rose, I'm bored!" Megan, my best friend, complained.
"Gosh darn it Meg, how can you be bored?" I chuckle, trying to lighten up the mood.
"Because I just am!" she groaned.
I rolled my eyes. "Well if you're bored, then watch the television."
"But 'I Love Lucy' isn't on at two-o-clock in the afternoon on weekdays!" she pointed out.
I groaned myself, growing annoyed with her. "Well then listen to the radio, you love Elvis Presley don't you?"
She smiled and nodded. "Oh, how I wish I can get concert tickets..."
"You know that those prices are above the roof," I tell her.
She sighs. "This is going to be a boring summer."
I agreed. I didn't plan to sit in my house in the heat for three months, but I guess it's going to happen again. Sighing, I left the room and went to go check the mailbox. Maybe some of the magazines I prescribed to is here, so we won't be as bored.
However, when I opened the metal box and reached in there, I felt something else. It was a thin piece of paper, along with what felt like an envelope. I took a look at it, and started reading the paper that was folded up.
Dear Miss Rose Petty,
We are excited to inform you that you and a guest will have the privilege in joining the grand opening of the new and invincible ship, "Titanium."
This summer, you will sail across the ocean to many places, and still feel safe! This boat is made of indestructible metal, nothing can get in it's way!
There are also many things to do here. The brochure is at the side, if you'd like to check it out. Tomorrow, June 22, is the date of this amazing opportunity.
If you're summer is boring, pack your bags and sail with us!
Warm Regards, Captain Blare
Excitement filled throughout my body. This is perfect, a miracle perhaps! It's so odd that Megan and I were just complaining about how bored we were going to be, and then this amazing opportunity just came along!
I ran back into my house, shouting, "Megan! Guess what!"
She ran to where I was, while I panted. "What's going on? What happened?"
I grinned at her. "Our summer isn't going to be so boring after all."
"Huh?" she seemed confused.
"I got these in the mail," I showed her the letter and tickets, "we're going on a cruise."
She gasped. "No way!"
"Here, read this!" I command, shoving the letter in her face.
After three minutes or so, Megan gasps. "This is incredible!"
"I can't believe they chose me," I said in awe. "I just feel so... special."
"You are special, Rose," she laughs. "You're beautiful, intelligent, talented..."
"Talented?" I raised my eyebrow.
She winks at me. "Don't think I haven't heard you singing that Elvis Presley song in the shower."
My cheeks flush in embarrassment. "Oh, well thanks you Megan."
"So who are you taking?" she asked.
"What?" I was puzzled.
"In the letter it explains you and a guest," she replied.
I rolled my eyes. "You, of course!"
My best friend looked taken aback. "Me? You would really take me?"
"Didn't I just say that?" I smiled. "You're my best friend, of course I would take you."
She pulls me into a gigantic bear hug. "Oh, thank you Rose! I'm so lucky to have you as my friend!"
"I wouldn't leave you here alone for the whole summer," I whispered.
She smiled at me. "At least we won't be bored."
I nodded in agreement. "Let's get packing!"
