The light summer breeze blew through her soft, red curls. She looked so peaceful sitting there with her eyes closed. I assumed she didn't know of my presence, or she would leave instantly. I couldn't blame her, if it were the other way around, I wouldn't be very forgiving either.
My eyes grazed her body, making sure that no serious harm was done to her. After I was certain she was fine my eyes landed once again on her peaceful face. Something I hadn't seen in over two years.
I desperately wished I could run my fingers through her hair again, hold her tightly in my arms again, have her be mine again. "what are you doing here?" she asked, opening her eyes to reveal her once bright green eyes, but I noticed they had turned dull and lifeless. I couldn't believe I had done this to her.
"Well hello to you too" I remarked, trying to lighten the mood, but I knew it was useless. she scoffed "you're not even worth a hello Jack, what do you want from me now?" she replied, the hurt glistening in her eyes. "I wanted to see how you've been, make sure you're okay." I said, sitting next to her on the cold park bench. "How have I been? its been two years, two flippin years since you left! And all of a sudden your concerned about how I've been? Don't waste your time" she remarked coldly.
"Mimi, i had to go" I said softly, looking down at my hands, unsure of what the right thing was to say. "You had to go? Where was my explanation? why didn't you tell me? Call me? Write me?! I'm sick of excuses." she exclaimed as tears started to stain her cheeks. "I had to go! It was to keep you safe!" I yelled, both of us standing up by now.
"If you wanted to keep me safe you should have stayed here and protected me! Ever since you left I've been living through the crap you left me to go through! I'm finally done with it all, and now you decide to come back? Well you should just..." she stopped talking as i grabbed her around her waist pulling her closer to me and pressed my lips to hers softly. It was as if nothing had changed in the last two years in that moment, the pain and tears were gone for a split second, and it was just us for a moment.
Her hands went to the back of my head as she pulled me closer to her, causing me to smile into the kiss. But it didn't last long, she pulled away from me. "Your making it really hard to stay mad at you." she whispered tears welling up in her eyes. "But Jack, be realistic, we would never work out. Maybe a couple years ago we would have had a chance, but not anymore." she said stepping out of my grasp.
I shook my head slightly, trying to clear it of the new haze I was in. "wait, what?" I said, stepping towards her. "Jack please don't." she whispered. Her eyes begging. "Mimi, please just stay, I'm different now, we could live out all those plans we made so long ago, make them a reality. Everything.. Everything could be perfect." I said. I couldn't bear her to be out of my life again. I loved her.
"You ruined my life, do you know how close I came to being killed? Just leave me alone, please.." she said before turning and hurrying away. I stood in shock as I watched her slim figure go out of sight.
"You can't stay away from me for long." I said quietly to myself before turning and leaving the public park.
