_______________
Queer:
Adjective.
1. Strange; odd.
The perfect word to describe the feeling Elsa was experiencing. From the moment she woke up, there was a feeling in the pit of her stomach, haunting her, telling her that something was going to happen today - either good or bad.
Getting dressed, she braided her hair loosely, letting a few strands escape and fall messily over her forehead. Sighing, she picked up her bag, and lazily slipped it over her shoulder. First day. The first day of her job. She hadn't even started yet and she was already tired. How she wished she could jump back on her bed, and have a nice slumber. But there's something outside, waiting for her. She had to face the big bad world soon, right? She can't just live her life sulking around in her room.
Making her way towards the door, she was about to exit her room, when she remembered what she was missing. Sadly, she slipped on her gloves.
How she wished she wasn't gifted with this 'power', though it was more like a curse for her. Anyone would probably happily trade their most valuable, precious stuff for this gift. At least, that's what her parents told her when she was four. Grabbing an apple and taking a huge bite, she slipped on her shoes.
"Ana, Mom, Dad, I'm going out!" She yelled while clasping the door handle. Better rush out before they sa--
"What! Where?" Her Mom shrieked, which was accompanied with a plate falling on the ground. Then she heard footsteps, getting louder with each passing nanosecond. Before she could understand what was happening, two arms were wrapped around her fragile body, squeezing her without mercy.
"Praise the Lord!" Ana squealed with delight. "Where are you going? Never mind, have fun. Tell me the details later. Okay, bye." And with that Elsa was kicked out of the house with the door shut in her face. Hiking her bag over her shoulder, she walked her way to her destination with a faint smile. The queer, unsettling feeling slowly vanished. No doubt her family was just weird, and dramatic.
The bell jingled as Elsa pushed open the door and walked in. The smell of cotton candy, chocolate, and coffee all mixed together greeted her. She turned to look at the empty tables and chairs. Only the seat in the left corner was occupied.
Weird, why would a person carry a shaft around? He had icy white hair, and somehow it suited him. Like, how many people do you know that could pull that hair colour off? None.
Looking weirdly at his back, Elsa walked towards the counter.
"Hello, what would you like?" The girl - worker she assumed, asked her politely, smiling. Either she was really sweet or she knew how to hide her actual emotions, because while Elsa fidgeted with her fingers and nervously looked around, she raised her eyebrows at her amusingly and patiently waited for her reply.
"I... um... I... applied for a part-time job over here," she stammered.
So much for facing the big bad world.
"Oh, you're the girl Josh was gushing about!" She chirped happily, while Elsa gave her a confused look.
"How rude of me, I'm Alice." She smiled, politely extended her hand for a hand sake.
"I'm Elsa." Elsa said, smiling back and shaking Alice's hand in return.
"Well, come on in. Better get to work." Alice pushed the cage open that was only for employees. "Just wear the apron over there and get to work."
