It was the day of the move. The day I'd been dreading since my mom told me and my sister that we were moving. I don't understand how so much can happen in one year. My parents got divorced, I have a new baby brother, my best friend died, and now we're moving to North Carolina. I can't get a break obviously. I taped my last box shut and set it outside the door.
"Hunny." my mom knocked on my door.
Her long hair was curled. She was beautiful. We were a lot alike. We didn't hold back what we thought. I admired her for being able to be a single mom of 2 teenagers and a baby, and not by choice.
"Yes?" I finally replied.
"I found this..." she handed me a picture of me and my best friend Marie. We called her Mar though. We were sitting outside the front of the house hugging. We had taken the picture a few weeks before Mar took her own life.
I blame myself everyday for not being there when she needed me the most. Tears were rolling down my cheeks as if on a permanent track.
"Lets go, sweetheart. We have a long drive." I grabbed my combat boots and walked down the stairs. My sister, Jamie joined me at the bottom.
"I'm gonna miss it here..." she spoke her voice cracky.
"So am I." I embraced her in a tight hug. Me and Jamie had never been closer in our lifes.. I was happy I had someone I could trust, that was there for me.
"Girls, we need to leave." my mom interrupted our crying session.
I picked up my duffle bag and my soccer ball and walked out the door of my now old house. I hopped in the U-Haul and cried my eyes out. Jamie hugged me and stroked my hair, but nothing could stop the tears. Nothing.
