"Come on, it's time." A gentle voice whispered. A tiny white kitten's eyes opened slowly, revealing a light brown cat. Ivy's brother Cloud was gently awoken by Princess, thier mother. Her white paw tapping gently on his tail. Princess quietly picked up Cloud. Cloud let out a tiny squeak, then silently swayed in his mothers jaws. Princess began to walk towards the enterance of the den, still firmly holding Cloud. Ivy jumped up and shook her sleeping sister, Twirl.

"Up!" Ivy hissed quietly. A ginger kitten slowly yawned and stretched to her feet. " Come!" Ivy squeaked. Twirl slowly followed Ivy as the two tiny scraps of fur wobbled towards their mother. Princess didn't notice them as she barely slipped through a tiny flap. Ivy waddled faster, Twirl not far behind. Gripping the soft blue floor, Ivy reached the flap and heard talking from the other side. She heaved her little head through the flap to see a large skinny orange male cat. With powerful paws and a pelt the color of fire.

" I want to decide his future. Make him a hero, like you!" Spoke Princess. The orange cat started talking but Twirl interrupted Ivy.

" Look! Mama is giving Cloud away!" Ivy saw Princess gently lower Cloud to the ground. His fluffy white fur sticking up. Princess licked Clouds head and pushed him towards the big cat with her white paw. The orange cat nodded, and picked Cloud up. Princess waved goodbye to them with her tail and turned around. A surprised expression snapped on her face when she saw Ivy and Twirl. " Are you gonna give us away too?" Twirl asked.

"Do you not like us?" Ivy murmured. Princess shook her head.

" I would love to keep you two forever but... You two will have to find some home of your own some day. But do not worry, little ones. Your with me now. No matter where you go, I will always love you."

**Chapter One-Beyond the gates

The clear cool air swept over the tangled grass. The sun shone and the world was filled with bird song. A plump ginger tabby stood low to the ground, putting all his weight on his haunches. With a flick of a tail he leaped forward, claws outstretched. The male tabby landed on top of a brown mouse which squeaked and struggled beneath his weight. With a single swift blow to the neck, the mouse lay still. " Nice catch, you still got it Bently" called a pure white she-cat, sitting on a fence to a housefolk den.

" Er... I dunno Ivy. These O'l bones of mine are gettin quite shabby" Called back Bently. Ivy leaped down from the fence.

" Oh nonsense. The great Bently who taught me how to hunt , is admitting defeat?" Meowed Ivy with a Posh tone.

" We'll, it'll be my time soon." Bently said, looking into the forest behind him. " They're's no hunting here like in the forest."

"I haven't gone to the forest in a while..." Meowed Ivy, following his gaze.

" Why? Are you scared those forest cats il' getcha, eh?" Bently replied with a rough laugh.

" Those are just kitten tales. Sure their might be stray's but two dozen wild cats? I'd like to see that" Purred Ivy.

"I dunno Ivy, i've been see'in lots 'o cats in the forest before. Fact, five or six of 'em once!"

"Could just be a.....Er very large group of strays?" suggested Ivy. A human's voice called from the large brown den Bently lived in.

"BeNtLy! Oh BeNtLeEeE. CoMe hErE bAbiES! Oh BeNtLy BoO!" Ivy's ears flattened to the sound of Bently's elderly Housefolk.

"Er....looks like I gotta go... See you 'round Ivy!" Bently called as he slowly trotted towards his den. Ivy waved her tail to her friend and turned towards the forest.

"Lets have a little look, shall we?" Ivy mused to herself and bounded towards the hedge that surrounded the town. She figured that she couldn't push through the thick hedge, so Ivy headed towards the silver heavy metal gate. There weren't many monsters in the area so there wasn't a rumble trail. Ivy could remember all the monsters when she was a kit. They would zoom by really fast and create a terrible smell and noise.

Ivy ran past all the red, white, and brown dens and through all the fences. Soon, the huge metal gate loomed over her. With a gap in the middle just big enough for a small dog to fit through. Ivy squeezed through the bars and felt soft grass touch her paws on the other side of the gate. She wasn't in the House folk area anymore. She was in the forest. The wild, behind the gate.

Her eyes widened as she took in her surroundings. The crisp wind, the scent of trees, birdsong filling the air. She took a deep breath as she continued walking. It was as if she entered another world, she glanced back at the gate, ending her thought. "Now about that hunting that Bently was talking about..." She murmured to herself. Ivy's mother talked about the forest sometimes. Mentioning the wild cats. This made Ivy stay away from the forest, she didn't want to get eaten. Now, she cautiously glanced around, her ears perked towards the trees. "What am I doing?" She hissed under her breath. "Wild cats." She snorted and padded towards the woods.

The sun shone brightly down on her sleek figure. She padded towards the pond for a drink. She loved the water from outside, it had so many other tastes in it. The water her house folk gave her was fine, but just to plain. She lapped at the water greedily, there are some disadvantages to the sunny days. But Ivy was much more fond of the sun than she felt towards the cold. After she finished, Ivy plopped down on the warmed grass. She would have loved to just close her green eyes and sleep, but the reason she came out here was to hunt, and do some exploring as well. She took her time getting up and then ran off deeper, into the forest.

She felt comforted under the branches of the trees, with bushes lined here and there. She was safe with all these spots to hide. Ivy parted her jaws, trying to pick up the scent of anything. She soon spotted a mouse, it was digging by a rock. A flash of excitement exploded in her eyes, but she kept calm, dropping into a crouch like Bently had taught her. She swiftly moved forward with her tail low to the ground, yet high enough not to brush any leaves. "Mice will feel your movement before smelling or hearing you." She silently recited in her head, reminding her to push her weight onto her shoulders. Se stalked towards the mouse, only more than 3 tail lengths away. She leapt to her paws and fan as fast as she could over to the mouse. The small animal noticed her and turned to run. It only got a couple of paces ahead of her before Ivy's powerful paws pinned the animal. With a swift swipe to the neck, she had caught it. She puffed out her chest and pride filled her eyes. She was too exited to notice the two figures closing in on her.

"Your a good hunter." Ivy whipped around, the fur on her neck rising.

"For a Kittypet." A skinny brown tabby stepped out of a bush, followed by a pure white cat, like Ivy. The two cats exchanged glances then the white cat gazed at Ivy, in thought. The brown tabby narrowed her eyes."You would have caught it faster if you had pounced on it." She said, turning to Ivy.

"Yes but by being able to chase and catch it is impressive." The two cats looked at each other, as if speaking telepathically. Ater what seemed like a while, the White cat spoke up. "I'm Iceclaw, and this is Brookheart." He said, flicking his tail towards the other cat. "What's your name?"

"Ivy." She said hesitantly. "And what's a Kittypet?" Brookheart answered her.

"A Kittypet is a weak cat that depends on twolegs to survive." The word weak rolled on her tongue as she spoke as if testing the word.

Iceclaw glanced at her warily. "A house cat." He said. Ivy nodded.

"Then you must be strays." She said. Again, the two cats glanced at each other, and then back to Ivy.

"Actually were Clan cats. We live in the forest with a lot of other cats." They said.

Ivy's eyes widened. "So they are real..." She murmured.

"What was that?" Brookheart asked.

"Oh nothing." Ivy said, still in thought. Iceclaw turned to Brookheart and he lowered his voice.

"Do you think maybe..." He started.

"Your not actually thinking tha-" their voice trailed off as Ivy stood there. They hissed to each other in hushed voices. Brookheart looked a little angry at one point. Eventually Iceclaw turned around and faced Ivy.

"It's not a for sure question, but we would like to ask." He glanced at Brookheart and she nodded. "Would you like to Join our Clan?"
