Since my best friends were the first people that I told, I told them that I had finally told my mom. I didn't really feel like telling my dad about it, though.
My two best friends were sitting at lunch with me when someone brought a usual topic: anything that normal people talk to. I say "normal" because I'm a bit strange and I hang out with strange people.
"So, Sam. Did you finish writing that story you were working on?" My best friend, Nera, asked through a mouth full of lettuce.
"Which one? I have several..." I replied before looking back down at my phone.
"The one where we have demons for butlers and it seems like straight people don't even exist."
"Oh, I-" I hesitated when I felt a hand on my back. "Danny... Don't do that. Just tell me what you want."
Danny propped his feet up on the table before looking across at Nera "Hey, Nera, I heard Sam finally told her mom she's a boy." He smirked, and Nera rolled her eyes. She always did that when someone brought up lgbt+ topics. She was a bit homophobic, and she blamed her father.
"Why are you rolling your eyes?" I asked in monotone. "You're bi!"
"Don't tell people! And it doesn't matter! It's wrong to be gay or bi... Or anything like that! It's a sin! An abomination!"
"What about all of the sins you commit on a daily basis?! I'm no longer a Christian, but according to Christian beliefs, Jesus died so you could be forgiven. I think calling it a sin is wrong either way, but, hey, whatever floats your boat."
"This is different!"
"Of all the bull-" Danny interrupted me.
"Can I have your chocolate milk? Please?" He begged like a puppy.
"No. I'll drink it when I'm done arguing. Now. Nera, even though the bible says 'man shall not lay with man'-" She cut me off.
"Don't even try that. Women are implied."
"That's not what I was going to say! It was translated wrong! Some of the books were left out too! Basically, when it was translated to English, it got twisted!"
"If it was translated wrong, what does it actually say?!"
"It says 'man shall not lay with boy'! It's wrong to be a pedophile, not a homosexual!"
"You know what? Just drop it! Let's just drop it!"
That was something she said very often. Whenever I talk about something she doesn't like, she gets extremely upset. Then, if I ask her why, she's never mature enough to talk about it. I left and talked to no one for the rest of the day.
