After a few minutes of flying, Darren pointed at a large building, and with a smile he said, “There.” He’s nuts, we don’t have enough money for that. The building was illuminated by tons of windows and other buildings surrounding it. It was about 100 stories and was beautifully made.
“We don’t have enough money for that.” I stated simply. Both Darren and Alex raised their eyebrows at me. Then, Darren pulled out the biggest load of cash I’d ever seen, including a credit card. I couldn’t imagine how much money there was on that card.
He’d most likely stolen it from one of his ex-co-workers, and I know all those evil scientists are rich. “Okay. Fine.” I said with a grin. Alex fist pumped the air, and even Darren was smiling.
We started descending about 200 feet before the building. I nearly fell on my face and had to run to not become a human pancake. At the last second, I stumbled and then Darren put a hand on my waist to steady me.
I was blushing furiously, judging from the heat on my face. Sparks flew were he touched me. "Thanks," I mumbled while I tucked my hair behind my ear. He smirked. "You are welcome." he replied, arrogance in his voice. Damn him and what he does to my head.
My name is Alexandra, and I let men get into my head. Ironic, because my name means "protector of the man." I don't know why I chose that name. I'm the complete opposite. Perhaps because it also means "to ward off, keep off, or to turn away." Fair enough. I stook with the name because I simply chose to.
As we entered the hotel I stared and sniffed in awe. Things I'd never seen or smelled were surrounding me, and I'm so overwhelmed by it all that I pass out.
****************
I wake with a start, suddenly remembering it all. I groan as my head impacts on something hard. Darren's head. Great.
"Ow," he says with mock pain, pretending to rub his head. I ignore him and immediately ask, "Where are we?" a little too harshly.
"Relax, we're in the hotel. You're safe. All of us are." he says, trying to reassure me. I smile gratefully, then try to hide the thought that it might not last too long.
Did I seriously pass out in the hotel lobby? I wonder what kind of lie Darren must have told the employees.
Probably played the "orphan" card and persuaded them to discount, even if we had the money.
I remember Flor and Alex, and quickly scan the room. "WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY?!" I yell as I push Darren. He pushes me back and yells "Relax! They're in the pool!" Oh my gods.
How dare he leave them alone?! Aggravated, and on mama bear mode, I storm off to look for the kids.
