Chapter 1

Children were screaming as they were pulled away from their parents and herded into a line. The one's that couldn't keep up were left behind.

" We have to get them to safety. Is the shelter completed?" an officer asked hurriedly.

" No , sir. It's still in the experimental stage. We can't be sure if it's safe!"

the scientist replied.

" We'd be risking all of their lives."

"We have to; it's our only hope for surviving this war," the officer shouted desperately. The scientist sighed, knowing this was true. They guided the panicked crowd to the entrance of a cave-like structure. The king stood up to speak in an attempt to calm them.

"War is upon us and times are tough. Our request for a truce with Asia was rejected", he paused as the crowd gasped hopelessly.

" But some of the greatest scientists have been working diligently to find a solution. They have built us a shelter to wait out the war, a place where we can live in peace. Where we don't have to worry for the lives of our children, but we must hurry. The enemy is near, and this is our last chance." He led the crowd towards the structure.

"There will be food, water, light, and anything necessary for survival. There will be a caste system for organization, but that is a minor detail at this moment. Follow me if you wish to survive."

The king slowed his breathing as he neared the entrance. He walked through the door, the people streaming in behind him. As soon as everyone was through, reinforced steel was locked in place over thedoor, and everyone began to explore their new home.
