Worst Birthday Ever

With my head pressed against the car window, I looked out at the rode ahead to see illusions of puddles. It was late June and it was about 90°F outside, with the humidity around 80%, making today feel very hot and very long. Having only caught Richard at around 1:30pm, about an hour has passed since then, and I was already bored out of my mind.

"Hey Evelyn, once we drop Richard down at the base; where would you like to go for your birthday?" Jennifer asked while turning around in her seat to face me.

"Doesn't matter." I mumbled. In all reality I didn't want to celebrate my birthday at all, because I really hatted this one day of the year.

"Come on, you must want to go somewhere." Jennifer pushed.

"Not really, I just want to crash for the rest of the day." I replied.

"Ok then..." Jennifer responded while turning around to give Chris a worried look. I ignored Jennifer's looks, and gave a small sigh which fogged up the glass, but I still continued to stare out the window.

This time twelve years ago, was the day AMTC tagged me. Me being upset had nothing to do about being tagged, but what happened before was what had haunted me for years. It was my sixth birthday and it started out like any normal day; my mother woke me up with a warm plate of waffles, a cold glass of orange juice, and some fruit; my mother had also had a warm smile on her face and she had worn a beautiful yellow flowered white dress, and had her chestnut colored hair in a long loose braid that hung over her left sholder. I lived with only my mother back then, because we didn't have any close relatives and my father was never in the picture; to tell you the truth I never met or even knew about my father. Well, that evening I had watched "Barbie in the Nutcracker" which at the time was my favorite movie; I had loved the scene where the ballerinas came out and danced, twirled, leaped, and slid across the ice with ease, I had thought it was so beautiful and it had made me really want to go ice skating that day. Later in the day my mother brought me to a nearby supermarket to pick up my birthday cake; she had to quickly get me in some clothes because we where running late, so I ended up wearing a long sleeve striped shirt and jeans; we where strolling threw the isles when my mother suddenly stopped to turn around and give my a kind smile, "So what do you want to do for your special day?" she had asked.

"Mommy, I want to ice skate so I can dance like the pretty ballerinas I saw on t.v!" I replied excitedly.

My mother gave a doubtful look, so she kneeled down to get at eye level with me, "I'm sorry honey, but the ice rink is closed during the summer, maybe another day we can go." she replied.

 "Okay."  I had responded sadly.

My mother lightly squeezed the side of my arms to try and comfort me, "How about we just go skating instead?" She then suggested.

"Okay!" I responded excitedly, even though I was still a little disappointed.

We began to walking again and turned down the breakfast isle, when my mom stopped again, "Why don't you go and get two boxes of cereal, any kind you want, while mommy looks for her coffee?" she suggested.

"Okay!" I responded cheerfully as I started to skip down the isle. When I got to the cereal, I had to look up to them, because the boxes where on a shelf above my head. I jumped up and grabbed a box, when I brought it down, I saw that it was Frosted Flakes, frost made me think of ice, so again, I started to think about how nice it would be to go ice skating, to just glide across the ice with ease, to have the icy wind nip at my nose and cheeks to turn them to a rosy color, and to have my blonde hair which would be in a pretty ponytail, would flow behind me.
