I walked into the bar, my favorite red dress on, trying to get over the fact that my friends had ditched me. I had straightened my curly brown hair, and for once I looked decent! They wanted to go to the fancy new night club in Kensington, while I was stuck (being broke) at the pub around the corner from our flat. Who knew London could be boring? When I moved here from the states, I'd expected wild parties every night. So much for that dream.

"Ah, it's my favorite customer Georgia! What can I get for you?" the lady at the bar asked, furiously scrubbing at a non-existent spot on the counter. "I'll take a pint of whatever you've got. What's going on tonight?" I questioned, taking the mug from her outstretched hand. "Oh, we've got some silly little magic act in from New York. I doubt It'll draw much of a crowd, but at least we'll be entertained by how horrid he is, eh?" the woman chuckled. I nodded, and took a seat at a table by the base of the stage.

A dorky little man walked on, holding a magic wand before him like a weapon. I think he wished the stage would swallow him up, he looked so nervous! He tucked the wand into his pocket, and cleared his throat. "Good evening ladies and gentleman! I am Mason The Magnificent! Uh, could I get two volunteers for my first trick? How about you, young lady? And the big guy?" he asked, pointing to me and a man I couldn't see (with all the people in the way). I laughed and sauntered up on to the stage. Why not?

I finally got a good look at the second volunteer. He had reluctantly pulled himself away from his phone, and was standing before me. He was quite tall (at least 6'5), with wild and curly brown hair. He had ridiculously long legs that he'd somehow squeezed into skinny jeans. "Hello. I'm Michael." he mumbled shyly. Before I could introduce myself, the magician continued. "I'm going to perform the vanishing handcuffs trick!" he announced.

He pulled out a pair of steel handcuffs, and my eyes widened. I wasn't too sure I wanted to volunteer anymore, and Michael looked white as a sheet. Before either one of us could move, he attached the handcuffs. So much for escape. "Now, I will make sure these are nice and tight... perfect... now I will place the scarf-of-wonder over your hands... and PRESTO CHANGO! You're free!" he yelled, yanking off the scarf. Nothing had changed, and Michael groaned loudly. I rolled my eyes. He seemed like a bit of a snob. Then I realized what had happened...

"Y-You have a key for it, right?" I stuttered. He turned bright red, wailed out "I'M SO SORRY!", and ran for the exit. "No! Wait!" Michael protested, but the little man was gone. He spun on me, painfully yanking my wrist.

"You know, I don't need this! I've had a hellish day, and the very last thing I needed was to get stuck to some bratty little girl!" he raged. My jaw dropped in disbelief. "How is this my fault? I'm not a little girl, I'm 21, and do you think MY life's goal was to be stuck with you? No! It really wasn't!" I shot back, then collapsed onto the floor crying, bringing him down with me.

He sighed and brushed the tears from my cheek. "Look, we'll work this out, alright? It'll be okay. And I'm sorry for shouting."

I looked up, surprised. So he wasn't a total jerk.
