The Lies You Told

When I was a child,
Why did you tell me that I could be whatever I desired?
Why did you tell me it's my choice on who I admire?
Why did you tell me that the only opinion about myself that matters is
mine?
Why did you tell me these things when you knew that once I grew up, they'd become
lies?

-End-

This poem was for:
- The dreamers whose parents told them they could be whatever they liked but were heartbroken to find out it wasn't true.
- The LGBTQ+ kids who thought they could love whoever they pleased without getting judged.
- The kids who had self confidence until the world tore them apart.
- To anyone who understands the pain of these horrible lies
