The stillness of the evening is nothing but boring to Azaziah while he sat and stirred his tea, its bitter taste slowly being eaten away by the grains of sugar that are still swirling around his little, silver spoon.
He sighed and lifted the utensil, lightly tapping it on the rim of his mug before putting it in his mouth to suck off the last bits of sugar stuck to it.
"What's the matter, babe?" Kae reached over and gently ran his long fingers through Az's messy hair, further displacing his curls.
What was wrong? Az didn't even know. He hadn't been feeling himself that day and he just didn't really know why. "I think I'm bored?"
Kae exhaled through his nose and slid his chair closer to his boyfriend. It made an awful scratching sound against the hardwood floor of the kitchen, making them both wince.
"You've been 'bored' all day now," he laughed weakly. "Is everything okay?" His hand moved from Az's hair down to his face and he lightly rubbed his thumb over his cheek.
The action made Az's throat tighten as if he were trying to hold back a sob yet he didn't actually feel like crying. In fact, his eyes felt more heavy with sleep than tearful.
Az ignored how his body had reacted just shrugged, letting his spoon fall onto the table with a loud clicking sound. "Between work and home today I guess I just feel... I don't know."
"Hm," the blond hummed. He drummed his free fingers on the table, staring down at the steaming mug. "What can I do to help? Wanna go on a date? Do I need to romance you more?" He dropped his arm around Az's shoulders and a sly grin spread on his face. "Hey, baby, wanna come to my place for some drinks?"
The sudden laugh that escaped Az made him choke on his breath. "We live together and I'm literally about to drink this tea."
Kae gave an exaggerated pout and furrowed his brows. "So that's a no? You don't wanna date me? I'm hurt."
Rolling his eyes Az shifted under the blond's hold, his smile fading by the second. He loved Kae's jokes, but he just wasn't feeling it. "Don't be hurt, you know I'm joking."
Before he could grab his drink, Kae yanked Az onto his lap, pulling him into a tight hug. The blond peppered kisses on the top and side of his head, each peck a little rougher than the last until he reached Az's lips.
"You need some change in your day," Kae said after a chaste kiss on his lips. "Something that you really enjoy needs to be a bigger part of it."
Az grabbed a strand of Kae's long hair and twirled it between his fingers, his gaze transfixed onto his cooling drink. The room was still, the only sounds being the waves outside and his boyfriend's heart steadily thumping.
"I enjoy you a lot," he mumbled.
"Me? Well then, I guess I should be in your day more. It's only..." Kae dug his phone from his pocket and checked the time, only glancing down for a brief moment before he tucked it away. "Well, it's late, but not too late. I can still save this day!" The blond stood abruptly, his hold on Az tightening as he lifted the smaller man.
"Hey! What're you doing?" Az yelped.
Instead of giving him an answer, Kae started to walk to the back door, a large smile slowly spreading on his face. It was one Az knew too well, but he was far from anxious about it. As rambunctious as Kae could get, he knew that his boyfriend would never do anything too wild.
He hoped.
The sky had grown dark and a few stars were out, but the overhead of the deck blocked most of them from Az's view. What he could see was their patio set, the stairs leading down to the beach, and the hot tub. He wasn't sure which one Kae was going to head towards.
