A cool sensation trickled down my spine. I glanced around nervously. A hesitant light seemed in through a cracked window, casting eerie shadows on the walls. As I walked forward, I can't help but get the feeling that someone is following me. something brushed the back of my legs. I whirled around; I saw nothing but emptiness. Shadows seem to swirl around my feet. In a burst of panic, I fumbled for a light switch running my fingers along the cold cracked walls. I flipped it up and down frantically hearing it click as I did, but the room remained in darkness. Someone brushed against me again.

"Who's there" I muttered.

"Are you sure it's her sir" a man said with a scratchy voice.

"Yes I can sense the power running  through her" another man spoke with a deeper tone.

"Show yourself" I demanded.

"If you insist" he said chuckling.

Something barged past me knocking me too the ground. I stood up and turned around to see a dark mysterious figure lurking in the shadows. He started to laugh as fear spared across my face. His laugh was wicked and evil that sent shivers trickling down my spine.
"Time to wake up know see you soon" he said disappearing back into the darkness.

I woke up with gasp to find my self sweating and my heart racing and pounding out of my chest. I yawned as I herd a knock on my bed room door. My mum entered without any hesitstion. She's the kind of parent that just barges in. One knock of all I really get. As she entered our eyes met. Her once bubbly expression she usually has plasted all over her face 24/7 had vanished. She might have been smiling but her eyes sadneded. Mum looked very professional this morning.  Her brown hair had been neatly tired into a tight bun with every strained of hair combed back so nothing was out of place. Her usual brightly coloured wardrobe had been replaced by a black office skirt , a white button up shirt and a black overcoat.

"Morning sweetie" she spoke softly sitting in the edge if my bed.

"Happy 17th birthday" she almost shoutout in excitement.

"Thanks mum....."

"What's wrong" mum said putting her hand on top of mine attempting show empathy.

"Well I'm 17 now and I still don't have my powers, I'm a freak" Those last words shook me bringing a tear to my eye.

"No your not, none of that negativity iny house"
"Now" she said standing up from my bed.

"when you are ready I want you to come down for breakfast"

She left the room swiftly. I'm guessing she didn't exactly know what to say. Having no powers by 17 isn't common in fact in unheard of. This made her worry but sue tries not to show it, but I can see though her act most of the Time.

I quickly change into some light blue stretchy jeans and a white singlet and throw up my hair into a messy bun and headed down stairs.
As I walked in the smell of freshly cooked eggs and bacon filled the air. I threw myself down into the bench stool while mum served up my breakfast. I was starving. I picked up my fork heaping a embarrassing about of bacon into it and moved it towards my mouth. Suddenly my chest tightened.
I couldn't breath, my lungs seemed to stop working. I dropped my fork and cluched my chest gasping for air. The world spun as all the blood rushed to my head. My body screamed and aced I could not take it anymore. My body fell to the floor the chair following behind. My muscles tightened and what felt like a fire ripped though me. My parents frozen panicking, they know what to do they just sat there in horror. I screamed as the pain was now unbearable. My vision began to blur as the world spun rapidly. I looked up once more seeing my parents in a panic and that was the last thing I saw.
