His pencil moved across the white paper. His eyes squinted as he drew. Hunter stared at the picture that was in a frame on his desk. "Sweetie?" Said a sweet voice.
He didn't reply. The door opened slightly and his aunt peeked in. "Hey Kiddo." She said. Again he didn't answer. "I brought you a sandwich, in case you were hungry." She said, setting the plate down on the table. "Hunter, talk to me." Said his aunt brushing back some of her curly blonde hair.
Hunter continued to draw. Heather quickly took the pencil from his hand. He stopped and looked at her. "You didn't have to take it from me." He said . "Were you going to stop to talk to me?" She replied back. Hunter folded his arms abd leaned on the desk. "You have to eat something." Said Heather. "I'm not hungry." He mumbles. "Hunter, you haven't eaten anything for the past week." She said back. "I have eaten." He said back.
Heather knew he was lying. Hunter 's once built body was now like twigs. He used to treat his body like a temple. Hunter worked out every day from six in the morning to ten a.m. Now he would lock himself in his room reading and drawing.
"Eat the sandwich." Heather said trying to sound stern. "I'm not hungry." He replied standing up. "Hunter Francis Lockwood you will eat what I have prepared or so help me god." She frowned. Hunter grabbed a book off the shelf.
"Your little threats don't scare me." He said nonchalantly. Heather let out a sigh. "I know you miss her Hunter, but you can't isolate yourself. Skipping school too." Heather said. "Did my dad ever tell you why he moved me and Jessica here?" He asked looking at her. She didn't answer. "He told me that he had to go on a business trip for a while and that he didn't want you, Jessica or your mom in Chicago by yourself."
Hunter let out a scoff. "Business trip." He mumbled. Heather folded her arms. "Hunter please, your dad has good reason-"
"Good reason!" He shouted. "Are you stupid or something!" Said Hunter. Heather backed away a few steps. "He separated all of us just so he could keep himself safe!""He doesn't care about me, Jessica or my mom!" He yelled, standing up. "I can't see my mom because of him, you had to move from Nevada because of him,Jess can't go outside and play any more because of him,and I can't even see, talk or go back to Chicago to Delilah!" He said throwing his lamp across the room.
"Hunter-" Heather shouted. He ignored and walked out. "Hunter get back here!" She yelled. He grabbed his jacket and opened the door. "Hunter!" Heather shouted again.
Jessica walked out of the room rubbing her eyes. "Hunter? Where are you going?" She asked holding her blanket close. "Not now Jess." He said. "But I wanna come too." She replied her wavy black hair falling into her face. "I said no!" He yelled.
His little sister steps back. Hunter's jaw clenches. "I...I said no." He stammers running out of the house slamming the door.
"Auntie?" Jessica says turning around. "Why is Hunter so mad?"
"I don't know sweetie." She replied hugging her. "He just misses Delilah that's all." She smiled. "Li?" We asked. "Yeah, your old babysitter." Said Heather. "I miss her too. Why didn't she come to Canada with us?""Honey, Li had to stay so she could finish school." Heather said. "That's why Hunter is so mad and hasn't played any games with me? Because he misses Li?" Jessica asked. "Yeah." Heather replied smiling. "Hunter told me he loved Li. He said he loved her so much." Jessica giggled. Heather brushed back some of her hair. "Yeah, I know he did. He still does. You and your brother had to leave Chicago because your dad wanted you to get a better education."
"You mean school?" She asked looking up, with her blue eyes. "Yes and he got a better job."Heather replied. "Oh. I want to go outside. Can we go to the park?" She asks. "Honey its to cold out and your dad said you aren't allowed out of the house for another two days." She explains.
Jessica looks down at the ground, saddened. " Please Heather. I won't tell." She begged. Heather squeezed her eyes shut. "I promise." Jessica said with a grin. "Jess you know the rules I can't." Heather tried to explain. "Please!!!" She shouted. "Oh all right." Heather replied giving in. "Go get some clothes on" she ordered running her hands through her blonde hair.
