"Goodnight my little pigs." Headmistress Olava snaps as she slams the door to the room containing about ten teenage orphan girls. I lay in my bed and I wait. Tonight is the night. I'm going to run away from this dreaded orphanage. I've hated this place ever since I got here.
"Y/N..." Delilah, your best friend whispers, "Are you actually gonna do it?"
"Of course. This place is nothing but a gruesome hell disguised as some innocent heaven." I say.
"Oh, well... that is true, but what will happen when Headmistress Olava finds out?"
"I don't know, and I don't want to know." I say as I put on my backpack and walk over to the only window in the room. I opened the window up and the cold air blew in my face.
"Y/N? Where are you going to go?" Delilah asked.
"I don't know." I said as I rested my hands on the windowsill. The orphanage had stairs and balconies beneath every window. I stepped out of the orphanage and stood on the metal balcony admiring the silence of the city at this time of night.
"You'll come back for me, right?" Delilah asked as she stood on the other side of the window.
"When I find us somewhere to live, yes." I say.
"Okay. Here I think you'll need this." She said as she runs to the drawer next to her bed. She returns with $180 cash and she hands it to me along with a picture of her and I when we were younger. "I've been saving up just for this." She says, "And this picture, so I'll always be with you."
I smile and take the picture and the money. "I'll miss you." I say.
She smiles and closes the window.
I look at the city, then I quietly walk down the stairs. It takes me about five minutes to get down to the alleyway next to the orphanage. I can barely see in the alley until I walk out near the front of the orphanage. It looks so peaceful and quiet. It is such a gilded place. So sweet and harmless from far away, but inside, it's a terrible place for everyone. I grabbed a bottle of black spray paint and shake it. I pull my hood over my head and I begin. I paint the words, "What you see is an illusion." I step back to admire my work. The words were spread across the entrance to the orphanage. I'm proud of my work, then I run. I run as far as I can. I run and run until I end up in a neighborhood. The houses are lined in neat rows. All of their lights, turned off. They all have beautiful flowers spread across their lawn. I wish I had a home.
"Where am I going to go?" I think. Then I see a house with its lights on. I run up to it and I raise my hand to knock on the door, but I don't. I don't want to disturb them. I finally build up the courage and knock. A girl and a boy, both with black hair, the girl has almond colored eyes and the boy has dark, almost black eyes.
"H-hello?" She says.
I put on my tired face and say, "I'm... so... sorry..." Then I all I see is black.
